About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

Permanent, full-time · Aotearoa Infinite Academy · Includes a teaching component · Start Term 1, 2027
Be the person who knows every learner in your year level, and makes sure none of them slip through. Aotearoa Infinite Academy, New Zealand's first online charter school, is a thriving community growing to 2,000 students in 2027. To bring our goals for our learners to life, we're creating new leadership roles, including Year Level Deans. In an online school, connection doesn't happen by accident. You'll build it, so every student in your cohort feels known, supported and able to access their learning.
What you'll lead
Pastoral care. Be the first point of contact for students and whānau in your year level, building strong relationships online and in person.
Access to the curriculum. Identify barriers to learning, from device and connectivity issues to wellbeing and learning needs, and work with curriculum leads, teachers and learning support to remove them.
Attendance and engagement. Monitor daily attendance and online engagement data, follow up quickly with students and whānau, and apply our stepped attendance response.
Early intervention. Spot students at risk early, put support plans in place and refer to case management and outside agencies when needed.
Wellbeing and behaviour. Respond to incidents, including online incidents, using restorative practice.
Cohort culture. Run year-level check-ins, celebrations and events that build belonging across our online community.
Working with leaders. Report to your pastoral Deputy Principal and contribute to our schoolwide attendance and engagement strategy.
Who you are
We want people who are loyal to our vision, passionate about doing things differently, hard-working and unafraid of change and innovation. You'll also bring:
A registered teacher with a full practising certificate and experience in pastoral care, such as a tutor, dean or wellbeing role.
Genuine care for young people, and the warmth and persistence to reach students who are hard to reach.
Confidence using attendance and engagement data to act early.
Strong communication with whānau, including in difficult conversations.
Comfort building relationships through online platforms, video calls and messaging.
What we offer
A newly created leadership role at a thriving, fast-growing school, with a teaching component that keeps you connected to learners. You'll be part of a strong pastoral team, with PLD support and a clear pathway in leadership. Competitive remuneration.
