Principal Software Engineer - Medical ai automation

We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer who will be the technical owner to leverage advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Large Language Models (LLMs), to revolutionize healthcare billing processes. As a key contributor, you will drive the design, development, and deployment of scalable, reliable solutions that streamline medical billing workflows, improve accuracy, and enhance user experience.
We are building a new billing platform from the ground up and need a engineer who owns its core: the engine that moves claims and payments through their lifecycles, the background job system that runs every automated step, and the integrations with payers, clearinghouses and banks. Backend engineering on a money system, TypeScript on PostgreSQL on Azure, working directly with the CTO on a team that stays at two to four engineers.

What are we looking for:
The type of Principal Software Engineer we are looking for: an engineer who has shipped a transactional system (payments, claims, orders, ledgers, anything where a row posting twice is a real problem) in a typed language, and who has been the one who found out when it broke and why.
Duties
Lead the development of backend systems using TypesScript/Python, ensuring robust integration with AI models, LLMs to automate complex billing tasks.
Design and implement scalable microservices architectures utilizing cloud infrastructure such as AWS or Azure to support high-volume data processing.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop RESTful APIs and web services that facilitate seamless communication between components and external systems.
Develop intuitive front-end interfaces with React, Angular, or similar frameworks to improve usability for end-users managing billing workflows.
Apply system design principles to create efficient database schemas using relational databases like SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL, as well as NoSQL options like MongoDB.
Implement rigorous testing strategies including unit testing, integration testing, and debugging to ensure high-quality deliverables aligned with SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) standards.
Skills
Extensive experience with Python programming language for backend development and AI integration.
Strong knowledge of AI technologies including Large Language Models (LLMs) and their application in automation solutions.
Expert-level Python for ETL/ELT pipelines and automation, including libraries such as pandas, pydantic, and SQLAlchemy. Production experience with a workflow orchestration platform such as Prefect, Airflow, or Dagster.
Strong SQL fluency across relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and cloud data warehouses (Snowflake); familiarity with dbt or similar transformation tooling. Disciplined testing and delivery practices: pytest or equivalent, continuous integration (GitHub Actions or similar), Docker, and Git-based code review.
Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure and services, Azure preferred. Effective, verified use of AI-assisted development tools as part of daily engineering practice
