BE THE DIFFERENCE
At AIA we don’t simply believe in being ‘the best’. We believe in better – because there’s no limit to how far ‘better’ can take us. Everything we do is driven by our purpose to make a difference by helping people embrace Healthier, Longer, Better Lives. And every one of our people has an important role to play. If you want to make a difference by helping shape a healthier, better-protected Australia, read on.
The Opportunity:
The Senior Technical Data Owner is a permanent role within AIA Australia's Data Products & AI pillar, serving as the primary coordination point between Data Office Senior Management and project technology teams. The role ensures effective communication, alignment, and information flow across stakeholders, helping to identify and escalate risks, issues, decisions, and requirements to the appropriate accountable owners. While requiring strong technical knowledge of AIA's data platform, the position does not hold design authority, approval responsibilities, or accountability for project delivery outcomes.
Key objectives include:
Act as the day-to-day liaison between Data Office engineering leadership and project technical streams across AIA’s technology project portfolio.
Facilitate clear, timely communication of requirements, decisions, and constraints in both directions.
Track and coordinate technical dependencies, risks, and issues relating to data, escalating to the appropriate Senior Manager or Head for resolution.
Support technical streams in understanding Data Office standards, processes, and delivery.
Maintain visibility and reporting on data-related project activity for Data Office leadership team
The successful candidate would be responsible for:
Act as the primary liaison between project technical teams and the Data Office, ensuring effective communication and alignment with Senior Managers and delivery teams.
Participate in project forums, working groups, and technical discussions to maintain visibility of progress, decisions, dependencies, and emerging data-related issues.
Coordinate the flow of requirements, questions, decisions, and information between projects and Data Office Leadership team , ensuring actions are tracked and followed through.
Monitor adherence to Data Office requirements, standards, and delivery expectations, escalating gaps, risks, blockers, or misalignments to the appropriate accountable leaders.
Support issue resolution by connecting the right stakeholders, facilitating discussions, and ensuring timely escalation without holding design or sign-off authority.
Guide project teams on Data Office processes, governance engagement, platform access, and ways of working, supporting effective onboarding and collaboration.
Build strong stakeholder relationships while promoting awareness of regulatory, privacy, and data governance obligations, escalating compliance concerns through established channels.
To be successful in this position, you will:
Strong technical skills in Azure Databricks: working knowledge of the platform, lake house, medallion architecture, and common project integration patterns — sufficient to follow and translate technical conversations.
Demonstrate experience in a data, technology, or project coordination role within an enterprise environment, with strong technical fluency in data platforms.
Have experience working across project and engineering teams in a liaison, coordination, or business analysis capacity.
Have experience in:
Unity Catalogue: experience with data cataloguing framework, lineage, and access control concepts.
Click: experience with CDC tools and how Analytics Engineering teams deliver data products.
Power BI: experience delivering semantic models and reporting patterns, sufficient to relay reporting-related requirements accurately.
Delta Lake: Strong experience with Delta Lake, including solution design, implementation, and the ability to provide expert guidance on Delta Lake concepts and best practices throughout project delivery.
