Senior Engineer- Tool Development

JOB PURPOSE: Design and Development of high quality Moulds, casting dies and sheet metal tools to ensure components of the NPD (New Product Development) project are produced as per designs and specifications with form fit and function, utilizing best industry practices and help convert them to defect free and cost-effective productionable tools while ensuring improved first-time right tool designs and meeting timeline targets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Mold and Die design
• Assist in Making RFQ document with tech specifications, Tool Target Cost Estimation and DFM of Parts and tools
• Assist tool engineer to define machine and mold size basis part designs under consideration
• Participate in tool design review and provide insights for smooth operations, reliability, improved consistency in quality of tools and in turn end components.
Mold and Die Development
• Assist tool design team in reviewing the tool development plan, identify critical milestones, critical path and follow through the same with tool maker for ensuring timely development of the tools
• Critically evaluate the tool design readiness during various stages and specific parts responsible for CTQ dimensions of the end parts and update the same to internal teams and tool room
• Attend trials and report out trial observations
• Assist in follow-up with tool makers for closure of changes and corrections
• Attending tool commissioning trials at supply partner ecosystem.
• On field Inspection & dispatch inspection of the tools, provide necessary inputs to mold maker for ensuring right care is taken before mold dispatches
Participate in NPD processes
1. Review part designs with respect to manufacturability considering tool working feasibilities
2. Provide technical inputs to mold flow analyst. Review of mold flow/Cast report and work with design engineers for closure of design actions.
3. Work with ED teams to define part and tool changes in alignment with manufacturability of tools
4. Create documentation of Tooling PPAP
5. Suggest options to meet manufacturability criterion to industrial design and engineering design colleagues early at design stage 6. Suggest solutions to manufacturing vendors for addressing challenges during commissioning and productionizing the tools. Enable liaison between end molder and Mould maker.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
B Tech + PG Diploma in Mold & Die Designs from CIPET, NTTF, TRTC BE / B Tech.
WORK EXPERIENCE
5-10 years of experience in Consumer Durable, Consumer Electronics, Industrial Products, Automotive industry.
PREFERRED/ ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT
Experience in designing Molds/ casting dies / sheet metal dies working in tool rooms Trained on Moldflow analysis/ Cast flow analysis software/certification
FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES
Technical Skills: Accomplished injection mold designer with experience of designing 3Plate, 2K mold, over mold, hot runner sequential gating molds with medium to high complexity He/She should have expertise in design and development of thin-walled PDC tools with high finish and high productivity. Expert on tool steels and connected with steel material suppliers, working with them to develop unique solutions for unique part requirements Advanced understanding of manufacturing process led defects in parts and experience of troubleshooting during tool commissioning process Cost Skills: Thorough understanding mold cost breakup, mold manufacturing process with ability to identify opportunities for reducing capex and improving timelines for mold design and development. Process Skills: Should have thorough understanding of mold flow/ castflow tools with experience of established correlation. Should understand concepts of DFMEA/DFM for providing risk based advanced mitigation plan
