Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines and auxiliary power systems and has been revolutionizing modern flight for over 100 years. Join us and help shape the future of aerospace and defense.
Pratt & Whitney’s North Berwick Engineering Center is seeking a Mechanical Repair Design Engineer with the creativity, technical curiosity, and drive to turn engineering concepts into real-world solutions. As a Mechanical Repair Design Engineer supporting Aftermarket Repair Design, you’ll work across Pratt & Whitney’s commercial engine product lines to develop innovative repair solutions for hardware throughout the product lifecycle. Your work will primarily focus on components within the compressor and turbine sections of commercial aircraft engines, giving you a unique opportunity to see how aerospace products are designed, manufactured, operated, repaired, and improved. While this is primarily a mechanical design role, you’ll also gain exposure to structural finite element analysis, engineering calculations, manufacturing processes, project management, and customer support. You’ll collaborate with engineers across multiple disciplines and interact with internal and external customers to deliver safe, practical, cost-effective solutions. This is an onsite position in North Berwick, Maine.
What You Will Do:
Evaluate hardware and repair options by performing engineering calculations and technical assessments to determine part acceptability, identify repair requirements, and develop solutions that meet applicable engineering standards and customer needs.
Develop clear, production-ready repair documentation by authoring part- and assembly-level repair instructions, technical data, and procedures that enable manufacturing and maintenance organizations to execute approved repairs.
Deliver cost-effective repair solutions by collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop, evaluate, and implement repairs that meet technical requirements, quality expectations, and customer timelines.
Support new product development and lifecycle considerations by participating in design reviews as the aftermarket engineering representative and applying Engineering Standard Work to identify repairability and sustainment opportunities.
Resolve field and aftermarket engineering issues by investigating hardware conditions, analyzing technical data, coordinating with relevant engineering disciplines, and providing timely recommendations to internal teams and customers.
Travel Requirement: 20% (Domestic and International).
What You Will Learn:
Gain hands-on experience developing repair solutions for commercial aircraft engine components, including hardware within compressor and turbine sections.
Build a broad understanding of the full aerospace product lifecycle, from new product design and manufacturing through in-service operation, repair, and aftermarket support.
Develop practical skills in mechanical design, engineering calculations, structural analysis, finite element models, and manufacturing processes.
Learn how aerospace engineers balance technical performance, safety, manufacturability, cost, quality, and customer requirements when developing repair solutions.
Strengthen your ability to work across engineering disciplines and customer organizations while managing technical projects and communicating engineering recommendations.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering, with 2 years of relevant engineering experience; or an Advanced degree in a related field with relevant experience. Relevant experience demonstrating the ability to apply fundamental engineering principles to solve mechanical or aerospace engineering issues.
Qualifications We Prefer:
Hands-on engineering experience through a co-op, internship, or professional role in mechanical design, engineering analysis, manufacturing engineering, or a related discipline.
Demonstrated understanding of manufacturing processes, aerospace design methods, engineering procedures, and continuous improvement principles, with the ability to apply these concepts to practical engineering challenges.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, for engineering analysis, documentation, and technical presentations.
Experience with 3D CAD modeling; familiarity with Siemens NX is a plus.
Experience with Siemens Teamcenter or another product lifecycle management (PLM) system is a plus.
What We Offer:
Eligible for Relocation.
