Software Engineer (forward development)

Role Description The Software Engineer will design, develop, and maintain backend services and systems that support QGI’s explainable and accountable intelligence platforms. Day-to-day responsibilities include implementing scalable software solutions, writing clean and well-tested code, participating in code reviews, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate research concepts into production-ready features. The engineer will also troubleshoot and optimize existing systems, contribute to architectural decisions, and help improve development processes and tooling. This is a full-time remote role, requiring effective communication, self-management, and the ability to work productively in a distributed team environment.
Qualifications
Strong foundation in Computer Science, including data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
Hands-on experience in Software Development and Programming, with proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Java, C++, Go).
Practical skills in Back-End Web Development, including RESTful APIs, microservices, and integration with data storage systems.
Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts and their application in building maintainable, modular codebases.
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows.
Experience with AI coding systems (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Codex) and Agentic coding.
Familiarity with cloud platforms or containerization (e.g., AWS, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes) is beneficial.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Ability to work independently in a remote setting, communicate clearly, and collaborate with research and product teams.
