Role Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer – Substation to handle technical estimation, engineering reviews, and vendor coordination for Extra High Voltage (EHV) substation and transmission line projects. In this role, you will analyze client scope, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and layouts to prepare accurate Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and cost estimates in compliance with IS/IEC standards. You will issue technical inquiries to OEMs and suppliers, evaluate vendor submittals against client requirements, and serve as the core technical link connecting clients, internal engineering teams, and manufacturers.
Key Responsibilities:
Detailed Engineering Execution & Peer Review
· Individual Engineering Design: Hands-on drafting and validation of detailed substation layouts, clearance diagrams, key single-line diagrams (SLDs), earthmat layouts, and bill of quantities (BOQ) for EHV projects.
· Team Technical Oversight: Mentor and review design engineering deliverables produced by junior/internal engineering teams, ensuring absolute accuracy, code compliance, and structural/electrical feasibility prior to final client submission.
· Vendor Submittal Review: Perform rigorous technical evaluation of vendor engineering drawings, GA drawings, schematics, and equipment test reports from OEMs and suppliers.
Tender Document & Scope Analysis
· Comprehensive Tender Review: Systematically review and analyze complex EHV substation (up to 400 kV) tender documents, employer requirements, single-line diagrams (SLDs), layout drawings, and technical specifications to establish project scope and identify design constraints.
· Deviation & Compliance Tracking: Draft pre-bid queries, prepare technical compliance statements, and identify commercial/technical deviations against client standards (IS/IEC) during the tender evaluation stage.
Technical & Electrical Calculations
· Sizing & Rating Calculations: Conduct detailed electrical calculations including short-circuit force analysis, busbar sizing, transformer sizing, battery bank and charger sizing, and auxiliary power requirements.
· Earthing & Protection Design: Perform grounding grid (earthmat) calculations, direct stroke lightning protection (DSLP) coverage calculations, and insulation coordination parameters per IEEE/IEC standards.
· System Simulations: Perform load flow, short-circuit, and voltage drop analysis using electrical design simulation software (e.g., ETAP) to validate design parameters.
Cross-Functional Technical Coordination
· Vendor Technical Evaluation: Float targeted RFQs to OEMs/suppliers, evaluate complex technical offers, and resolve technical queries between suppliers, site teams, and power utilities.
Experience:
· 10-15 years of experience in preparation of BOQ, SLD, Layouts, cost/quantity estimation, technical review for drawing, technical support for tehcnicial offer for Substation projects up to 400KV.
· Coordinating with tendering, project and site teams of leading OEM/ MNC OEM / Utilities / Power Utlities / Major industries.
Qualifications:
Required
• B.E./B.Tech – Electrical Engineering from a reputed institute.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, Hindi, and Gujarati.
