Role Overview
We are looking for a skilled, meticulous, and self-motivated Diagnostic Laboratory Technician to join our diagnostics team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a wide range of routine and specialized laboratory tests spanning haematology, clinical biochemistry, molecular diagnostics, serology, and microbiology. The role also requires proficiency in biological sample collection. This is a hands-on, operationally critical role that will directly support the quality, accuracy, and turnaround of diagnostic testing services at EquiHealth Laboratories. The candidate will report directly to the Laboratory Manager and is expected to uphold the highest standards of laboratory practice, biosafety compliance, and data integrity.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform a broad range of diagnostic laboratory tests accurately, efficiently, and within defined turnaround times, spanning:
– Haematology: Complete blood count (CBC), differential leucocyte count (DLC), reticulocyte count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and blood smear preparation and analysis etc.
– Clinical Biochemistry: Liver function tests (LFT), kidney function tests (KFT), lipid profile, blood glucose, electrolytes, thyroid panels, and enzymatic assays etc.
– Serology & Immunodiagnostics: ELISA, CLIA, rapid agglutination tests, lateral flow immunoassays, and other antibody/antigen detection panels.
– Molecular Diagnostics: DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, Reverse Transcriptase-PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, and result interpretation.
– Microbiology: Sample culture and sensitivity testing, Gram staining, colony morphology identification, and basic pathogen characterization using manual or automated systems under required Biosafety protocols.
• Perform biological sample collection including venipuncture, peripheral blood collection, and other specimen types — with species-appropriate techniques as and when required.
• Handle, operate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment including but not limited to haematology analysers, biochemistry analysers, PCR machines, centrifuges, biosafety cabinets, spectrophotometers, microscopes, and automated pipetting systems etc.
• Ensure proper sample receipt, accessioning, labelling, storage, and chain-of-custody documentation.
• Prepare reagents, standards, controls, and culture media as required for daily laboratory operations.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and timely records of all test results, instrument logs, and quality control data.
• Implement and adhere to SOPs, GLP principles, biosafety regulations, and laboratory quality management systems.
• Perform routine equipment calibration, preventive maintenance, and promptly report malfunctions to the Laboratory Manager.
• Participate in internal and external quality assurance programmes including proficiency testing.
• Support the Laboratory Manager in daily workflow planning, inventory management, and consumable stock tracking.
• Assist with training of junior laboratory staff or interns as directed.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and biosafe working environment at all times.
Qualifications & Experience
Educational Qualification — one of the following:
• Diploma in Medical/Veterinary Laboratory Technology (DMLT/DVLT) from a recognized institution.
• Bachelor of Medical/Veterinary Laboratory Technology (BMLT/BVLT) or B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent — preferred.
Experience:
• Minimum 2 years and maximum 6 years of hands-on diagnostic laboratory testing experience post-qualification.
• Candidates from clinical, hospital, research, or diagnostic laboratory backgrounds will be considered.
• Demonstrated hands-on proficiency with the majority of standard diagnostic laboratory instruments and equipment and sample collection.
Technical Skills & Domain Expertise
Candidates must demonstrate proven, hands-on competency across all of the following diagnostic domains:
• Haematology
• Clinical Biochemistry
• Serology
• Molecular Diagnostics
• Microbiology
• Biological Sample Collection
Preferred: Exposure to or familiarity with veterinary or animal diagnostic sample types (blood, serum, tissue, swabs) is a distinct advantage, though not mandatory.
Additional Skills & Attributes
• Strong understanding of GLP, biosafety regulations (BSL-1/BSL-2), and laboratory quality management practices.
• Meticulous attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy, reproducibility, and data integrity.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tests and sample batches simultaneously within defined timelines.
• Proficiency in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) or equivalent digital reporting platforms is an advantage.
• Basic computer proficiency — MS Office, data entry, result documentation.
• Good written and verbal communication skills for result reporting and inter-team coordination.
• Team-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced startup laboratory environment.
• Startup mindset — proactive, resourceful, agile, and willing to take initiative beyond defined task boundaries.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and handle urgent samples as required.
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development within the evolving diagnostic sciences landscape.
What We Offer
• An opportunity to work in a dynamic One Health diagnostic laboratory — gaining exposure to both human and animal diagnostic sample types and testing frameworks.
• Competitive compensation, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
• Direct mentorship and professional guidance from an experienced laboratory management team.
• Exposure to cutting-edge molecular and immunodiagnostic technologies in a growing startup environment.
• A collaborative, inclusive, and science-first work culture.
• Professional growth pathway aligned with the organization's expanding diagnostic service portfolio.
• Opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven One Health organization making a real impact on animal and human health in India.
