Structural Designer

Role Description
The Structural Designer is responsible for developing structural designs, preparing technical drawings, and supporting the planning and execution of building and infrastructure projects. This role involves translating engineering concepts and project requirements into accurate structural documentation while ensuring that designs meet applicable building codes, safety standards, technical specifications, and quality requirements.
Key responsibilities include preparing structural layouts, detailed drawings, reinforcement plans, sections, and construction documentation for various structural components, including beams, columns, slabs, foundations, and load-bearing systems. The Structural Designer will interpret engineering sketches, design calculations, and project specifications to produce clear and precise drawings. The role also involves evaluating structural arrangements, coordinating design details, identifying potential conflicts, and recommending modifications to improve constructability and design efficiency.
Additional duties include collaborating with architects, civil engineers, mechanical engineers, and other project stakeholders to ensure consistency between structural and architectural designs. The Structural Designer will review drawings for accuracy, incorporate design revisions, maintain organized technical records, and assist in resolving design discrepancies. Responsibilities also include supporting material selection, checking dimensions and drawing annotations, and ensuring that structural documentation follows established drafting standards and project requirements.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical judgment, attention to detail, and a commitment to producing reliable structural documentation. The role requires effective communication, systematic problem-solving, and the ability to manage multiple design tasks while maintaining accuracy and consistency throughout the design process.
Qualifications
Strong understanding of structural design principles, building systems, and construction documentation.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla Structures, or other relevant structural design and drafting software.
Ability to prepare structural drawings, reinforcement details, sections, layouts, and technical documentation.
Familiarity with structural materials, including concrete, steel, and other common construction materials.
Understanding of applicable building codes, structural detailing standards, and construction safety requirements.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and design calculations.
Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in technical drawings.
Ability to coordinate structural information with architectural and other engineering disciplines.
