Senior Machine Learning Engineer, AI Safety

For our client, we are seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, AI Safety to join the team of a leader in the Telecommunications & Hardware space.
This role will focus on advancing machine learning safety across large language models, with an emphasis on evaluation, data curation, and training approaches that improve robustness. The position will partner closely with engineers, data scientists, and researchers to develop practical safety solutions for complex model behaviors. It offers the opportunity to influence how cutting-edge AI systems are trained, tested, and strengthened in a fast-moving technical environment.
Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available
Compensation: $184,000 – $287,500 annually
Responsibilities
Develop datasets and models to evaluate safety across key tracks such as LLM security and content safety.
Create filtering datasets and training recipes for pre-training and mid-training of LLMs.
Research and deploy innovative techniques beyond post-training to enhance model safety.
Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, data scientists, and researchers to implement safety solutions.
Qualifications
Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent experience.
8+ years of experience in systems software engineering or machine learning engineering.
4+ years of experience in post-training of LLMs, including supervised fine-tuning and safety data generation techniques.
1+ years of specialized experience in LLM security, frontier risks, agentic safety, or multi-turn safety evaluation.
Deep knowledge of machine learning principles and frameworks, particularly PyTorch.
Experience with large multimodal datasets and foundational models.
Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills with strong collaborative abilities.
