About the Project
The Henderson Agency is developing a new LGBTQ+ dating competition reality series intended for potential network and streaming platform distribution.
We are seeking an experienced Line Producer with a strong background in unscripted television, particularly large-scale dating competition formats and international destination productions, to develop preliminary production budgets.
Ideal candidates will have experience working on productions comparable in scale and complexity to Love Island, Too Hot to Handle, or other destination-based reality competition series.
This is a remote, development-stage consulting engagement focused on production budgeting, feasibility, and cost analysis.
Scope of Work
The selected Line Producer will develop preliminary budgets for two potential production scenarios:
Scenario 1: Domestic Production
U.S.-based island or coastal resort destination.
Domestic crew, equipment, accommodations, and production infrastructure.
Scenario 2: International Production
International island or resort destination.
International production logistics, local crews, travel, permits, and potential tax incentives.
Each scenario must include three production scales:
Lean: Cost-conscious production with an efficient crew and streamlined operations.
Standard: Network-quality production with comprehensive crew coverage and established reality television infrastructure.
Premium: High-end streaming production with elevated production value, expanded resources, and premium post-production.
Total: Six preliminary production budgets.
Key Responsibilities
Develop detailed, itemized preliminary budgets for all six production scenarios.
Establish realistic assumptions for episode count, runtime, cast size, filming days, and production schedule.
Budget all major production departments, including production management, casting, story, camera, audio, lighting, art, technical operations, and post-production.
Estimate location fees, accommodations, transportation, catering, equipment, insurance, security, medical personnel, and operational expenses.
Account for reality competition elements, including dates, challenges, excursions, and production design.
Evaluate international filming requirements, including work permits, visas, customs, local labor, currency exchange, taxes, and potential production incentives.
Include payroll fringes, production overhead, contingency, and other applicable costs.
Identify major budget risks, exclusions, and potential cost-saving opportunities.
Develop preliminary production schedules and staffing assumptions.
Prepare a side-by-side comparison of domestic versus international production costs across all three budget levels.
Required Deliverables
Six preliminary production budgets: Domestic and international scenarios, each with lean, standard, and premium options.
Editable, fully itemized budget files: Delivered in Movie Magic Budgeting or comparable professional budgeting software, with an accessible Excel version.
Budget top sheets: Total season cost, cost per episode, and major department totals.
Production assumptions: Episode count, runtime, cast size, crew size, filming days, prep, wrap, and post-production.
Preliminary production schedule: Estimated timeline from pre-production through final delivery.
Comparative cost analysis: Domestic versus international production expenses, cost drivers, potential savings, and production considerations.
Budget exclusions and contingency: Clear identification of assumptions, exclusions, allowances, and costs requiring further research or vendor quotes.
Budgets should be suitable for preliminary discussions with potential production partners, networks, studios, and streaming platforms.
Qualifications
Required:
Demonstrated experience as a Line Producer, Production Manager, or Production Executive in unscripted television.
Strong experience preparing detailed television production budgets.
Knowledge of large-scale reality competition production logistics.
Experience with multi-camera reality television, destination filming, and extended production schedules.
Proficiency in Movie Magic Budgeting or equivalent industry-standard budgeting software.
Ability to independently develop realistic preliminary estimates for projects in early development.
Strongly Preferred:
Previous credits on dating competition reality series.
Experience budgeting international unscripted productions.
Familiarity with production incentives, international crew structures, and destination-based production operations.
Experience preparing budgets for major networks, studios, or streaming services.
