Total Opening Consultants is an independent leader in door hardware consulting, providing
professional specification writing services to architects and building owners.
Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Door Hardware Consultant to
support our Consulting Team on a range of projects.
Position Overview
As a Door Hardware Consultant, you will play a key role in our Consulting Team, preparing
hardware schedules, writing specifications, managing project data, and supporting clients.
Working independently from your home office, you will contribute directly to the success of
our projects. This is a fully remote role, with some working hours overlapping Eastern Time (ET).
Key Responsibilities
• Review design documents, including floor plans, door schedules, and electrical
drawings.
• Enter project data into our systems, including door information and scheduling notes.
• Prepare hardware schedules, specifications, and cut sheets using our proprietary
software.
• Provide contract administration support, including shop drawing reviews, RFI
responses, and change order management.
• Organize and maintain project files and documentation, keeping accurate records
throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure all work meets Total Opening Consultants' standards and best practices.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Consulting Team.
Qualifications
• Minimum of 8 years' experience in the door hardware industry, including writing
hardware schedules, with knowledge of North American standards.
• DHI (Door and Hardware Institute) or GAI (Guild of Architectural Ironmongers) training
or accreditation is an asset.
• Strong understanding of door hardware products, with the ability to read architectural,
security, and shop drawings.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Organized, professional, proactive, and team-oriented.
• Reliable high-speed internet access.
