Salary band: £52,000 – £62,000 (dependent on experience)

Progression trajectory: Pathway to Principal Medical Writer
The opportunity
At Frontera, we know better outcomes begin with understanding what is really going on – with any challenge.
We work with ambitious, curious clients across life sciences who don’t simply want someone to fulfil a brief. They want a partner who can help them interrogate the problem, determine what matters and give them confidence in what happens next. Frontera helps them achieve because we turn thinking to understanding and translate understanding to doing.
Now, we are looking for an ambitious, intellectually rigorous Senior Medical Writer to act as our primary scientific author and quality anchor.
Operating at the core of our content delivery, you will bridge the gap between high-level conceptual thinking and meticulous, evidence-based execution. You will be the trusted scientific partner across our multidisciplinary accounts, working in tight lockstep with our Head of Content, Senior Designer, and Senior Account Director to turn complex medical evidence into compelling, compliant stories that move cleanly out the door. You won't have to carry the commercial weight of account direction – the Head of Content and Senior Account Director provide the strategic cover, giving you the headspace to focus on scientific excellence and editorial craft.
This is a high-autonomy role designed for a writer who enjoys variety across medical affairs, commercial campaigns, and healthtech.
For a writer who wants to shape editorial workflows and elevate scientific standards without traditional network bureaucracy, this role offers an intentional trajectory into Principal Medical Writer as you help our consultancy scale. Progression will come from demonstrating that you can establish editorial systems, maintain rigorous standards, and scale our content capabilities.
What you’ll do
1. Scientific craft and multi-channel content development
Primary scientific authorship: Lead authoring across diverse deliverables spanning biopharma, medtech, medical devices and healthtech. Deliverables include advisory boards, presentation slide decks, digital educational programmes, white papers, detail aids, commercial campaigns, and research reports.
Complex data translation: Convert dense clinical trial data, mechanisms of action, and health economics into clear, engaging and compliant narratives tailored to in-house teams, specialist consultants, general practitioners or patients.
Creative partnership: Form a tight dynamic unit with our Senior Designer to tease out visual concepts, visual data hierarchies and infographics directly from data, ensuring scientific rigour matches visual impact.
Editorial precision: Serve as the benchmark for scientific accuracy, reference verification, and regulatory compliance across all deliverables.
2. Delivery cadence and freelance guidance
Agile delivery engine: Form a close core unit with the Senior Account Director and Senior Designer. Own content-related timelines, balance scientific depth with commercial pragmatism, and set priorities in daily delivery scrums to keep work moving smoothly.
Freelance oversight: Brief, guide, and review specialist external medical writers during capacity spikes, ensuring editorial consistency, tone of voice, and clinical accuracy.
Scientific presence: Act as the voice of scientific authority in internal project discussions and client touchpoints, articulating scientific rationale with clarity and confidence.
3. Editorial workflow innovation and AI tooling
Test and shape intelligent workflows: Actively pilot internal agentic tools, assessing their real-world utility in literature reviews, first-pass syntheses, and editorial checks.
Solve systemic friction: Identify editorial bottlenecks and propose practical, tool-enabled solutions that eliminate repetitive writing admin and protect delivery timelines.
Maintain critical standards: Apply sharp editorial judgement to ensure AI-assisted outputs are held to the highest standards of scientific validity and compliance before reaching client review.
How Frontera works
We believe high-performing scientific writers should spend their mental bandwidth on high-value thinking: deep scientific synthesis, narrative architecture, and creative problem-solving.
They shouldn’t be burned out by executive-function slog and administrative drag.
Frontera is actively developing and embedding automated and agentic AI workflows to absorb low-value administrative drag and repetitive tasks – engineering tools like AI-assisted briefing agents, multi-source literature synthesizers, and automated citation workflows – to create more room for the work that needs human judgement.
You don't need to be a techie. You do need an active, critical curiosity about modern tooling and automation, and an intuitive understanding of where AI excels (rapid evidence synthesis, data collation, closed-loop reference checks) versus where it falls flat (generating nuanced, compliant, delivery-ready scientific content).
You will partner with our team to test, shape and refine intelligent editorial workflows. AI helps us work faster and remove unnecessary operational slog. Human judgement, challenge, creativity and collaboration remain essential.
You’ll fit right in if …
You will likely be an established Senior Medical Writer looking for greater influence and variety, or an experienced medical writer/freelancer ready to anchor an agile in-house team.
Consultancy/agency and medcomms pedigree: Proven track record of medical writing within a medical communications agency, healthcare consultancy or life sciences environment.
Scientific agility: Strong writing background in life sciences or a related field, with the capability to assimilate new therapeutic areas quickly and unpack the technicalities with ease.
Versatile editorial range: Comfortable shifting between detailed medical education, strategic consulting deliverables, and creative commercial messaging – maybe you even like the variety of working across Word, PowerPoint and, sometimes, InCopy.
Obsession with clarity: An eye for editorial nuance and compliance in regulated spaces – you understand how to frame data transparently and know that industry codes provide the matrix in which creative problem-solving can thrive.
Collaborative and tech-curious: Curious, communicative and pragmatic. You enjoy partnering with designers and account leads, taking constructive feedback on board, and exploring how modern tools can make work lighter.
This role is not for you if:
You work in a silo where writers only produce copy, and shy away from visual collaboration, slide architecture or presentation design.
You are uncomfortable operating as the primary in-house scientific voice across multidisciplinary accounts.
You view AI either as an existential threat to craft or as a shortcut for generating unvetted, generic content.
What Frontera offers
Autonomy: Direct access to leadership, content strategy, and editorial standards without layers of corporate red tape or endless review loops
A defined career pathway: Transparent progression metrics toward Principal Medical Writer as you establish editorial systems and scale our content capabilities
Balanced, flexible working: 35-hour standard workweek, remote-first setup, and 25 days’ annual leave plus UK bank holidays
Intentional community: Purposeful, periodic in-person touchpoints in London and Manchester/Liverpool designed for genuine collaboration, not mandatory desk-sitting
Competitive package: £52,000–£62,000 base salary, company pension, and comprehensive benefits
Application and process
If you are an ambitious, systems-minded medical writer who wants to shape the future of scientific communication and behavioural intelligence, we’d love to speak with you. To apply, please email your CV and a brief note on what excites you about combining scientific excellence with smart operational tooling to general.manager@frontera.global.
