About Newman CPA
Newman CPA is the largest national CPA firm focused exclusively on Common Interest Realty Associations (CIRAs). From our base in Carlsbad, CA, we serve thousands of associations across the country, and our clients stay with us. Our retention reflects the quality and consistency of our work.
We’re in a defined growth phase. We're aggressively building our national platform both organically and through acquisition. That means new markets, new books of business, and heavy investment in AI-enabled operations.
Join a team of hands-on builders setting the standard for CIRA audit and tax nationally. Growth means opportunity here: as the firm expands, senior seats open, and we promote the people we train. We invest in structured technical training, CPA exam support, and leaders whose job includes training you to operate at the next level.
The Role
As an Audit Senior, you own the engagement. You will still carry jobs yourself and do real work, particularly the complex and judgment-heavy areas. But the bigger lever in this seat is what your staff produces, and review is an important piece of the job.
In this hybrid role of doer and reviewer, you assign the work, teach the procedure before handing it off, review what comes back, and coach on the gap. You will run several engagements at once, which makes prioritization and scheduling a real part of the job: knowing which job needs attention today, which staff member is stuck, and which deadline is about to slip.
What You'll Own
Review, which is a critical part of this seat. Catching what is wrong while the engagement is still open, and giving feedback specific enough to change how the work gets done next time rather than just clearing the note.
The output of your engagements, regardless of who performed the work. You are accountable for the file that reaches your manager, and for it arriving complete.
The complex and judgment-heavy work, including reserve fund activity, related party transactions, contingencies, and anything with more technical depth than a staff auditor should be carrying alone. You perform these yourself.
Developing your staff, teaching the procedure before assigning it and building auditors who need less from you each engagement than they did the last.
Assigning and prioritizing the work, matching jobs to the right staff, stretching them deliberately, and keeping several engagements moving at once without letting any of them stall.
Keeping your staff and your jobs on track, which means knowing who is stuck before they tell you, and which deadline is at risk before it slips.
Engagement planning, including the audit plan, materiality, budget, and the staffing the job actually requires.
Draft financial statements and footnote disclosures prepared to a standard that requires few review comments.
Client communication on document requests, open items, and issues, escalating to the manager before a problem becomes a delay.
Engagement status in GoFileRoom, current enough that your manager never has to ask where a job stands.
Post-fieldwork wrap-up and clearing reviewer notes on time.
