Contract Embedded Engineer: U-Boot / TF-A Bootloader Porting (Remote, Europe, Outside IR35)
We're recruiting for a global semiconductor leader that needs a hands-on bootloader engineer to port and bring up U-Boot and Trusted Firmware-A on new high-end Cortex-A SoCs.
The essentials
- Contract starting around early January
- Fully remote, anywhere in Europe
- Outside IR35
- One stage only: a single technical interview on Teams
What you'll be doing
- Porting U-Boot to new silicon: SPL, DDR initialisation and board bring-up, not just config changes
- Working across the full boot chain, from first-stage loader through to the OS
- Porting and maintaining TF-A (BL1/BL2/BL31) on a Cortex-A MPU, including EL3, PSCI and SMC handling
- Secure-world integration (TrustZone, OP-TEE) and chain-of-trust work
What we're looking for
- Genuine U-Boot porting and bring-up on a new SoC. We want to hear which SoC and which parts you personally owned
- Real TF-A experience on a high-end Cortex-A platform (not Cortex-M)
- Strong C and ARMv8 low-level debugging
- Upstream contributions to U-Boot or TF-A are a big plus
- Based in Europe
This is a specialist role and the bar is high. Application-level work, board-config-only changes, MCU-only experience and keyword-only CVs won't be a match, so please apply only if you have done the porting yourself.
Interested? Message me directly or send your CV with the SoCs you've ported U-Boot and TF-A onto, and I'll come straight back to you.
