About Wisewire
At Wisewire, we believe learning should be designed with intention, not intuition. We partner with K–12 schools, workforce organizations, colleges, universities, associations, nonprofits, and employers to build engaging learning experiences that help people gain skills and achieve measurable outcomes. Our team combines learning science, instructional strategy, technology, AI-powered workflows, and human-centered design to create modern educational products that work in the real world.
About the Role:
Wisewire is looking for an FAA-certificated aircraft maintenance professional with teaching or curriculum experience to serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on a high school introductory aviation maintenance course.
Responsibilities:
Work with Wisewire instructional designers and content developers to translate manuscripts into lesson plans, student and teacher materials, hands-on activities, slide decks, and assessments that are technically accurate and appropriate for high school learners.
Advise on which hands-on and lab activities are realistic and safe in a high school classroom, and recommend demonstrations or alternatives where schools have limited shop access.
Help keep content aligned to FAA Part 147 and the Aviation Mechanic General Airman Certification Standards, and keep terminology consistent with current FAA handbooks (for example FAA-H-8083-30, Aviation Maintenance Technician Handbook, General).
Review assessment items for technical accuracy and make sure questions reflect how the concepts are actually tested and applied in the field.
Join occasional working sessions with the Wisewire team to resolve open technical questions.
Provide feedback and revisions on developed content to ensure accuracy and clarity.
Qualifications:
Current FAA Mechanic certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings (A&P). Inspection Authorization (IA) is a plus.
At least 3 years of hands-on aircraft maintenance experience. General aviation experience is preferred, since the course serves a general aviation audience.
Experience teaching, training, or developing curriculum, ideally in a Part 147 school, a high school aviation or CTE program, or an employer or apprenticeship training setting.
Working knowledge of FAA Part 147 and the Mechanic Airman Certification Standards. Familiarity with high school CTE programs and teenage learners is a plus.
Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to give clear, actionable feedback in shared documents and explain complex topics simply.
Reliable availability from late October 2026 through summer 2027, including quick turnaround on rolling reviews.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a remote environment.
