Commercial Service Technician – Level 2
About the Role
At Envirotrol, our technicians drive our success and deliver essential solutions to our commercial clients. We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated Commercial Service Technician – Level 2 to service, maintain, and repair commercial HVAC systems up to 50 tons.
In this role, you will apply technical expertise across a broader range of commercial equipment—including applied systems, chillers, and DDC controls—working both independently from a company vehicle and as part of a dynamic team. Key Responsibilities
Under the direction of a Lead Technician, you will utilize service literature and technical expertise to:
● Expanded Service & Maintenance: Service and repair direct-expansion equipment, packaged water-cooled AC units, air-cooled chillers, applied systems, water-source heat pumps, and computer-room units (CRAC) with self-contained humidifiers up to 50 tons.
● Advanced Controls & Piping: Troubleshoot pneumatic, electronic, modular DDC, and low-voltage control systems. Perform maintenance on atmospheric gas-fired boilers and chilled/hot-water piping and pumping systems.
● System Operations & Diagnostics: Accurately diagnose equipment failures, read gauges/instruments, adjust valves and controls, and perform required mechanical component repairs or replacements.
● Routine Equipment Upkeep: Perform preventative maintenance including changing air filters, cleaning coils/fans/ductwork, inspecting/replacing belts, and lubricating motor bearings.
● Mechanical & Electrical Assembly: Perform brazing, align heavy components, assemble structural parts, and connect wiring to power sources.
● Workflow & Communication: Maintain clear contact with dispatch after calls, update status with coordinators, complete service tickets/XOI workflows daily, and report complex equipment issues promptly to supervisors.
Education & Certifications:
● High school diploma, trade school graduate, or GED.
● Universal EPA Refrigerant Certification required.
● Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
Experience & Skills:
● Minimum of 3 years of HVAC trade schooling or commercial HVAC experience, PLUS at least 1 year of working independently performing commercial HVAC service from a company vehicle.
● Demonstrated capability meeting requirements on the "Tech Level 2 Competency Template".
● Solid grasp of single- and three-phase electrical systems and broad technical knowledge of larger commercial HVAC equipment.
● Ability to read rulers or tape measures accurately.
● Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Physical & Work Schedule Requirements:
● Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work at heights, climb ladders/scaffolding, and maneuver within tight or confined spaces.
● Comfortable standing for extended periods and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
● Prepared to run service calls and maintain a flexible schedule, including an emergency weekend standby on-call rotation.
● Ability to travel to job sites with occasional overnight stays.
● Maintain professional appearance, fleet cleanliness, tool maintenance, and strict adherence to safety processes.
