About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

About the Company
Itransition builds technology solutions for clients across a range of industries. Its new AI team develops AI-powered features for existing systems and builds new products, covering everything from AI agents, assistants, and chat interfaces to backend routing and optimisation, computer vision, and language model fine-tuning.
About the Role
As a Senior AI/ML Engineer, you will be among the first engineers on Itransition’s new AI team. You will take AI projects from an initial client request through scoping, development, evaluation, and production deployment. Along the way, you will work directly with client managers, assess available data, determine what AI can realistically deliver, and lead a team of two to three engineers.
This role requires sound technical judgment as much as engineering ability. The main challenge is often understanding the client’s data and business processes rather than choosing a model. You will be expected to validate ideas against real data, identify limitations early, and explain your findings clearly. Demonstrating that the available data cannot support a proposed feature is a valid outcome when the evidence is clear and delivered early.
Key Responsibilities
Translate client requests into project scope and estimates, assessing available data, technical feasibility, and expected costs.
Build initial versions of AI solutions quickly and evaluate them using the client’s real data.
Identify data limitations early and explain why a proposed feature may not be feasible.
Develop AI features and take them into production, ensuring they continue to operate reliably.
Lead two to three engineers working on an AI project.
Present project results to client managers and explain and defend technical decisions.
Determine when AI is appropriate and when conventional code, business rules, or database queries offer a better solution.
Plan the AI component of projects involving at least one person-year of work.
Required Qualifications
Typically, five or more years of experience in software engineering or machine learning engineering.
Strong Python programming skills.
Hands-on experience taking LLM-powered features and agents into production and maintaining them, including function calling, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and agent workflows.
Experience with agent frameworks such as LangGraph, LlamaIndex, or comparable tools.
Experience deploying AI solutions to cloud environments such as Azure or AWS, as well as on-premises environments, including deployments using local models.
Ability to evaluate LLM outputs using test sets agreed upon with business stakeholders, defined pass thresholds, and error analysis.
Experience with classical machine learning on tabular data, including use cases such as churn, segmentation, and forecasting.
Experience planning the AI component of a project involving at least one person-year of work and leading two to three engineers.
Understanding of personal data protection requirements, including GDPR and decisions about what data can be sent to external LLM providers.
Working English proficiency, with the ability to present results to client managers and defend technical decisions.
Preferred Qualifications / Requirements
The team’s core focus is on LLM applications. Candidates are not expected to have deep expertise across every area of AI. Knowledge of other AI disciplines can be developed through project work.
Candidates who meet most of the requirements but are uncertain about some areas are encouraged to apply and explain where they need further development.
Location and Work Arrangement
Remote work is available in Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
Salary & Benefits
Compensation depends on qualifications and skills. Itransition offers a range of employee benefits, including:
Flexible working hours aligned with your schedule.
Corporate medical insurance covering services at private and public medical centres.
Online English courses.
Corporate parties and events for employees and their children.
Internal conferences, workshops, and meetups for learning and sharing experience.
Gym membership compensation.
Five days of paid sick leave per year without the requirement to submit a sick-leave certificate.
A career development system with clearly defined skill qualifications.
The team works on projects for clients including PayPal, Wargaming, Xerox, Philips, Adidas, and Toyota.
