Role Overview
The Electrical Engineer (HV/MV) leads the high- and medium-voltage electrical scope for CTS Group's Chennai production campus, where standardised modular data center units are engineered and manufactured. The role owns the design, specification, and integration of HV/MV power distribution systems, from incoming supply through switchgear, transformers, and protection, ensuring every unit is safe, reliable, and compliant before dispatch.
Working across the engineering, production, and quality teams, the role provides technical direction to a team of electrical engineers and designers, and interfaces with vendors, consultants, and commissioning teams. It combines hands-on design ownership with day-to-day leadership of the electrical function on the campus.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and specification of HV/MV power distribution systems for modular data center units and campus infrastructure, including switchgear, transformers, ring main units, protection, and earthing.
Prepare and review electrical calculations and studies (load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, cable sizing, earthing) along with single-line diagrams and layouts.
Define technical requirements and specifications for HV/MV equipment, and review vendor submittals and drawings for compliance.
Coordinate the electrical scope with mechanical, controls, structural, and production teams to ensure designs are buildable within the campus manufacturing process.
Oversee Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of switchgear and power equipment, and support site acceptance testing and commissioning as required.
Ensure designs comply with applicable standards (IEC, IS, NFPA) and client technical requirements, and maintain accurate design documentation and as-builts.
Manage and mentor a team of electrical engineers and designers, setting technical standards and reviewing deliverables for quality and consistency.
Support root-cause analysis of electrical issues during production and testing, and drive corrective and preventive actions.
Liaise with utilities, consultants, and clients on HV/MV interfaces, approvals, and technical clarifications.
Contribute to standardisation, value engineering, and continuous improvement of the modular electrical design.
Required Skills and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; a Master's degree is an advantage.
3+ years of electrical engineering experience with a strong focus on HV/MV power systems, including experience in a managerial or team-lead capacity.
Proven expertise in HV/MV distribution design, covering switchgear, transformers, protection and control, earthing, and cabling.
Hands-on experience with power system studies and tools such as ETAP or equivalent for load flow, short-circuit, and protection coordination.
Experience in data center, industrial, manufacturing, or EPC environments; exposure to modular or prefabricated builds is preferred.
Sound knowledge of relevant standards (IEC, IS, NFPA) and safety practices for HV/MV systems.
Experience with FAT/SAT, commissioning support, and vendor and contractor management.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and electrical design documentation; familiarity with Revit is an advantage.
Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to lead a team in a fast-paced production environment.
