2D Game Artist & Character Animator (Unity) | 6-Month Contract
About WonJo Kids
At WonJo Kids, we believe happy learners are powerful learners. We make learning experiences that help kids feel happy and capable, and that build a love of learning that lasts. Our team includes educators, developmental psychologists, artists and engineers. We build with one rule we never bend: technology should support childhood, not dominate it.
We’re now building a new English-learning experience for kids aged 2 to 6, and we’re looking for an artist who can both draw and animate to help bring it to life.
The role
You’ll create and animate the characters, environments and UI that kids see and tap, all within our established visual world and art style. Every new piece should feel like it was always part of that world.
You’ll work closely with our developers and take your work all the way from sketch to a working scene in Unity.
What you’ll do
Animate our existing characters directly in Unity (their rigs are ready to go)
Create backgrounds, learning objects, buttons and other UI elements
Design screen layouts
Draw from scratch when needed, and refine, fix and improve existing artwork
Bring your art into Unity, build scenes and handle placement
Work hand in hand with developers to ship polished, playful experiences
Keep everything you make consistent with our art style
What you’ll bring (must-haves)
Strong drawing skills. You can create original artwork from a blank page and confidently redraw, adjust and refine existing art by hand. Drawing is at the heart of this role.
Character animation experience in Unity. You’ve animated characters inside Unity before, not only in external tools.
Hands-on Unity experience beyond animation. You’re comfortable importing and organizing 2D assets, building scenes and arranging UI layouts.
Good English. You’ll be creating an English-learning experience, so you need to be comfortable working with English content.
An eye for consistency. You can match an established art style and keep it consistent across characters, backgrounds and UI.
Nice to have
Experience creating and editing rigs (useful for new characters and objects later on)
Experience using AI tools in a production workflow
How we work with AI
AI is one of the tools in our production workflow, from asset creation to animation. We use it in different ways: sometimes for early exploration, sometimes as part of the production itself. And sometimes the best answer is to draw from scratch.
We’re looking for someone who’s open to working this way and has a good sense of when each approach fits. Whatever the starting point, your eye and your hand shape the final result.
The details
6-month contract project
The working arrangement (full-time or otherwise) is still being finalized, and we’ll share the details during the process
