About Canary Aerospace
Canary Aerospace Pvt. Ltd., part of the Canary Digital Group, is an emerging aerospace technology company focused on designing, developing and manufacturing next-generation Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), autonomous aerial systems and advanced aerospace solutions.
Combining aerospace engineering expertise with the Group's capabilities in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, Autonomous Systems and Software Engineering, we are building innovative aerial platforms for surveillance, inspection, logistics and other mission-critical applications.
Our engineering programmes span multicopter UAVs, fixed-wing VTOL platforms, autonomous docking systems and next-generation aerospace technologies.
As we expand our aerospace engineering and R&D operations, we are looking for a passionate and technically accomplished Design & Analysis Engineer – CAD (UAV / Aerospace) to join our team in Kalamassery, Kerala.
About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on Design & Analysis Engineer who can take complete ownership of mechanical and structural engineering activities — from concept development and 3D modelling to simulation, design optimisation, manufacturing support and flight-test validation.
This is not merely a CAD drafting position. The selected engineer will actively participate in developing real-world aerospace products, applying engineering analysis to ensure structural integrity, aerodynamic performance, weight optimisation and manufacturability.
You will have the opportunity to work closely with our multidisciplinary teams across aerospace engineering, propulsion, avionics, autonomous systems, AI and manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
1. CAD Design & Product Development
Develop parametric 3D CAD models and complete assemblies for UAV platforms, including fuselage, wings, booms, tail structures, VTOL arms and landing gear.
Design aerodynamic surfaces and translate conceptual configurations into manufacturable structures.
Develop mechanical components, payload integration systems, locking mechanisms, control linkages and battery-swap assemblies.
Ensure effective integration of propulsion, avionics, wiring, sensors and payload systems.
2. Structural Engineering & Simulation
Conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for static, buckling, vibration and modal performance.
Analyse metallic and composite aerospace components under relevant operational loads.
Evaluate structural strength, stiffness, fatigue considerations and margins of safety.
Interpret simulation results and implement design improvements to optimise performance and weight.
3. Composite Structures & Manufacturing Engineering
Design carbon-fibre and glass-fibre composite structures, sandwich panels and bonded assemblies.
Develop laminate configurations, ply schedules, joints, inserts and structural interfaces.
Design moulds, tooling, jigs and fixtures for composite manufacturing.
Support wet layup, vacuum infusion and prepreg manufacturing processes.
Apply Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles throughout product development.
4. Aerodynamic Analysis & Optimisation
Support Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) studies for aerodynamic performance.
Evaluate airflow, drag, rotor interactions, VTOL transition effects and thermal management.
Collaborate with flight dynamics and propulsion teams to optimise structural and aerodynamic configurations.
5. Engineering Documentation & Validation
Prepare manufacturing-ready 2D drawings, GD&T specifications, tolerance analyses and Bills of Materials (BOM).
Maintain engineering design documentation, technical calculations and simulation reports.
Manage mass properties, centre-of-gravity calculations and configuration updates.
Support prototype assembly, troubleshooting, ground testing and flight-test activities.
Incorporate manufacturing and testing feedback into continuous design improvements.
Required Qualifications & Experience
2–6 years of relevant professional experience in mechanical design, structural analysis or product development involving physical hardware.
Strong proficiency in at least one leading CAD platform: SolidWorks, CATIA, Siemens NX, PTC Creo or Autodesk Fusion 360.
Hands-on experience with FEA tools such as Ansys Mechanical, Abaqus, Altair OptiStruct, Nastran or equivalent.
Sound understanding of structural mechanics, material behaviour, load cases and engineering design principles.
Working knowledge of composite materials, including carbon fibre, glass fibre, sandwich structures and adhesive bonding.
Experience creating manufacturing-ready technical drawings with appropriate GD&T and tolerances.
Practical understanding of manufacturing processes, assembly constraints and design optimisation.
Ability to independently design, analyse, refine and validate engineered components.
Relevant demonstrated engineering experience and project accomplishments will be prioritised over academic pedigree.
Preferred Skills – Added Advantage
Previous engineering experience in UAVs, aerospace, drones, motorsport, automotive or robotics.
Knowledge of fixed-wing aircraft and VTOL configurations.
CFD experience using Ansys Fluent, Star-CCM+, OpenFOAM or equivalent.
Experience in composite fabrication, mould development and vacuum infusion.
Familiarity with aerodynamic tools such as OpenVSP, XFLR5, AVL or XFOIL.
Experience with vibration analysis, lightweight structural design and fatigue assessment.
Understanding of mechanism design, battery integration and UAV payload packaging.
Experience participating in prototype development, hardware testing or flight trials.
Personal engineering projects involving drones, RC aircraft, Formula Student, robotics or rocketry.
What You Will Work On
You will contribute to challenging aerospace development programmes, including:
Fixed-Wing VTOL UAV Platforms: Structural design, simulation, composite airframe development and prototype validation.
Autonomous UAV Docking Stations: Mechanical design for autonomous landing, docking and battery-swapping mechanisms.
Next-Generation Aerospace Platforms: Research and engineering development involving advanced VTOL configurations and autonomous aircraft systems.
Advanced UAV Engineering: Lightweight structures, mechanisms, payload integration and manufacturing solutions.
Why Join Canary Aerospace?
Build Real Aerospace Products: Work on engineering designs that progress from CAD models to actual manufactured and tested hardware.
End-to-End Engineering Ownership: Participate in the complete product development lifecycle instead of working on isolated drafting assignments.
Emerging Aerospace Technologies: Gain experience in UAVs, VTOL platforms, autonomous systems and advanced composite structures.
Multidisciplinary Innovation: Collaborate with engineers specialising in aerospace, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, embedded systems and autonomous technologies.
Innovation-Driven Environment: Work with a focused R&D team where engineering decisions translate rapidly into practical outcomes.
Growth Opportunities: Be part of an ambitious Indian aerospace technology company building capabilities for domestic and international markets.
How to Apply
We invite engineers who are passionate about designing, analysing and building real aerospace systems to apply.
Please submit your updated CV along with a technical portfolio demonstrating relevant projects.
Your portfolio may include CAD models, design drawings, FEA/CFD results, engineering reports or photographs of manufactured products. Briefly describe your individual contribution, engineering challenges addressed and the outcomes achieved.
