About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

Are you looking for more than just an internship? At Bland, Nebraska’s first Employee-Owner (ESOP) CPA Firm, interns are treated as part of the team from day one. Our employee-owners are passionate about helping clients succeed, collaborating with one another, and creating an environment where people can learn, grow, and enjoy the work they do.
As an Accounting & MIS Intern, you’ll work with our finance and technology teams on the systems and data behind our accounting work, gaining practical exposure to financial systems, reporting, and automation in a collaborative environment. This role is a fit whether you’re majoring in Accounting with a minor in Management Information Systems (MIS) or majoring in MIS with a minor in Accounting.
OUR PERKS
Award Winning Culture: “Best Place to Work”, “Excellence in Firm Culture”, “Best CPA Firm for Women and Best CPA Firm for Equity Leadership”.
Growth Opportunities: 18-month internal leadership program (BLING), Staff Advisory Board, Bland Cares, and cross-functional training opportunities mean your voice matters!
People-First Leadership: An environment where leaders are approachable, empathetic, authentic, and invested in the success and well-being of every team member.
YOUR ROLE
Systems & Data Support: Extract, clean, and validate financial data from our accounting and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, maintain master data such as the chart of accounts and vendor and customer records, help test system updates, new features, and integrations, and assist with user access reviews and internal controls documentation for financial systems.
Reporting & Automation: Build and maintain reports and dashboards in Excel and business intelligence tools, automate repetitive tasks such as data imports, reconciliations, and recurring reports, support month-end close by preparing data pulls, reconciliation files, and variance reports, and write and update process documentation and user guides for finance systems.
Collaboration & Professional Development: Work closely with staff, managers, and partners across accounting and technology teams, balance multiple assignments while meeting deadlines and quality expectations, take on special projects tied to process improvement and system implementation, and participate in training opportunities to deepen technical and professional skills.
YOUR SKILLS
Knowledge: Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree with a major in Accounting and a minor in MIS, or a major in MIS and a minor in Accounting. Possess a minimum of a 3.0 GPA or higher. Intermediate Excel skills required. Experience with Structured Query Language (SQL), Power Query, Python, or Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), and exposure to an accounting or ERP system, preferred.
Skills: Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset. Adaptability, curiosity, and a willingness to dive into new challenges. High attention to detail, comfort working with large data sets, and a commitment to quality work. Training is provided, but this role also requires initiative, curiosity, and a willingness to learn independently.
Ability: This role is located at our office in Omaha, NE (Regency Parkway & just south of Dodge St), and must be able to work 15–20 hours per week during the school year, with additional hours available during breaks (between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday–Friday). This is a paid, year-round position.
Background Check: Candidates must pass a background check as part of the hiring process. Performance is evaluated based on the proficiency and effectiveness of task completion, including the quality of work, application of performance, accounting and systems knowledge, and the ability to meet time constraints.
Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, pregnancy, genetic information, disability, status as a protected veteran, or any other protected category under applicable federal, state, and local laws.
Why Bland & Associates
