Key Responsibilities1. Insurance Claims Management
Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of insurance claims, from initial notification and registration through assessment, negotiation, settlement, closure, and record retention.
Receive, review, validate, and register claims submitted by internal departments, project teams, contractors, suppliers, and other relevant stakeholders.
Determine the appropriate insurance policies, coverage provisions, and notification requirements applicable to each incident.
Coordinate timely notification of claims to insurers, brokers, and other relevant parties in accordance with policy conditions.
Monitor claim progress and ensure outstanding actions, supporting documents, and responses are completed within required timelines.
Maintain an accurate register of open, pending, disputed, settled, and closed claims.
Review claim submissions for completeness, consistency, supporting evidence, and compliance with applicable policy requirements.
Identify missing information, documentation gaps, inconsistencies, and potential issues that may affect claim acceptance or settlement.
Coordinate claim investigations and facilitate communication between internal stakeholders and external claims professionals.
Ensure claims are handled in accordance with organizational procedures, contractual obligations, insurance policy conditions, and applicable legal requirements.
Escalate complex, high-value, disputed, or time-sensitive claims to the appropriate management, Legal, Risk, or Finance teams.
Support the development and continuous improvement of standardized claims handling procedures and workflows.
2. Construction and Project Insurance Claims
Manage insurance claims associated with construction projects, infrastructure works, engineering activities, and related business operations.
Coordinate claims involving construction all-risks or erection all-risks policies, where applicable, including damage to works, materials, and insured project property.
Support claims arising from accidental damage, fire, flooding, severe weather, equipment failure, theft, and other insured events.
Review project incident reports, construction records, inspection findings, photographs, technical assessments, and supporting evidence.
Coordinate with Project Managers, Site Engineers, Project Controls, and Construction teams to establish incident timelines and assess the impact of losses.
Evaluate claims involving construction materials, plant and machinery, temporary works, site facilities, and project-related property.
Assist with claims arising from contractor or subcontractor activities, subject to applicable insurance arrangements and contractual responsibilities.
Review project insurance requirements and confirm that claims are directed through the appropriate policy and responsible party.
Coordinate the collection of project schedules, cost records, purchase orders, invoices, and repair estimates needed to substantiate claims.
Support the assessment of delay-related financial consequences where coverage is available under applicable policies.
Monitor claims that could affect project schedules, construction costs, contractual milestones, or completion obligations.
Work with Commercial and Contract Management teams to distinguish insured losses from contractual claims, variations, defects, and other non-insurance recoveries.
3. Policy Coverage and Claims Assessment
Review insurance policy wording, schedules, endorsements, exclusions, deductibles, sublimits, warranties, and notification conditions relevant to submitted claims.
Assess the apparent applicability of policy coverage to reported incidents and identify potential coverage concerns.
Compare reported losses against insured values, policy limits, applicable deductibles, and relevant coverage restrictions.
Identify circumstances that may trigger multiple insurance policies or require coordination between insurers.
Review insurers' coverage positions, requests for information, reservation-of-rights communications, and claim assessment findings.
Identify potential gaps between the insured loss and available coverage.
Coordinate with brokers, insurers, Legal, and Risk Management to clarify policy interpretation and claim requirements.
Maintain records of coverage decisions, supporting correspondence, policy references, and relevant claim documentation.
Escalate coverage disputes, policy interpretation issues, and potentially uninsured exposures for specialist review.
Support periodic reviews of claims experience to identify recurring coverage gaps and opportunities to improve future insurance placements.
4. Claims Documentation and Evidence Management
Establish clear documentation requirements for different claim categories and incident types.
Collect and review incident reports, witness statements, photographs, videos, police reports, medical documentation where appropriate, repair estimates, invoices, and other relevant evidence.
Coordinate the preparation of detailed claim submissions supported by verified facts and substantiated loss calculations.
Maintain an organized electronic repository of claims correspondence, policy documents, investigation reports, settlement agreements, and supporting evidence.
Ensure documentation is complete, appropriately classified, securely retained, and accessible to authorized stakeholders.
Track document requests from insurers, brokers, loss adjusters, legal advisers, and other authorized parties.
Review the consistency of dates, quantities, costs, descriptions, and supporting records before claims are submitted.
Maintain clear audit trails of claim decisions, approvals, negotiations, payments, and closure activities.
Protect confidential commercial, financial, personal, medical, and legally sensitive information throughout the claims process.
Support internal and external audits by providing accurate claims records and supporting documentation.
5. Loss Assessment and Financial Evaluation
Analyze claimed losses and assess whether supporting calculations are reasonable, complete, and consistent with available evidence.
Review repair and replacement estimates, contractor quotations, supplier invoices, asset valuations, and related cost documentation.
Coordinate with Finance, Engineering, Procurement, and Project teams to validate the financial value of damaged or lost assets.
Review the basis of claimed costs, including applicable depreciation, salvage value, deductibles, underinsurance provisions, and policy limitations.
Support the assessment of business interruption or additional expenditure claims where relevant coverage exists.
Analyze the financial implications of partial settlements, disputed amounts, and unrecovered losses.
Compare claimed amounts with insurer assessments and identify discrepancies requiring clarification or challenge.
Maintain records of reserves, estimated recoveries, approved settlements, received payments, and outstanding balances.
Coordinate with Finance to reconcile insurance recoveries against the relevant project, asset, cost center, or general ledger records.
Identify potential overstatement, duplication, unsupported costs, and other discrepancies in claim submissions.
Provide management with analysis of material claims, financial exposure, expected recovery, and potential unrecovered amounts.
