About Buying Simplified
Buying Simplified is a specialist finance and procurement operations firm serving US life-sciences companies. Our teams in India and the US run record-to-report, accounts payable, procurement and spend analytics for biotech and pharma clients, and our GenieWorks.ai platform brings AI into those workflows. We embed people who become trusted members of our clients' finance teams.
The client(s)
You will be embedded with a fast-growing, US-headquartered company preparing to go public or raising successive rounds of funding. They may have entities in the US, China and the UK. Finance runs on SAP S/4HANA or Netsuite or DAX.
Why this role is different
You will work alongside our US-based finance transformation leader, a former Global Controller and Big 4 auditor who leads the client's IPO-readiness work. She sets direction on the complex technical topics. You own the execution and become the client's go-to person for the monthly close.
It is real exposure to public-company preparation, with senior guidance beside you rather than being left to figure it out alone.
What you will do
Close and general ledger
Own month-end close tasks: journal entries (accruals, prepaids, R&D and clinical accruals, revenue), account reconciliations and the closing package.
Prepare consolidation workpapers, including US–China intercompany matching, eliminations, and FX revaluation and translation (USD/CNY).
Prepare flux analysis and monthly management reporting packs: P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and KPIs.
IPO and audit support
Prepare PBC schedules and work directly with the external auditors.
Support preparation of US GAAP financial statements and the schedules behind SEC filings (S-1, then 10-Q and 10-K), with guidance from our US lead.
Help draft accounting memos on topics such as ASC 606, ASC 842, R&D costs and stock-based compensation, with review.
Operate and evidence internal controls over financial reporting (SOX-style).
Client partnership
Join US-hours calls with the client's Controller and finance team, and walk them through close status and flux commentary clearly.
Write clear, client-ready emails and status updates, and own follow-ups through to closure.
Raise issues early, with a suggested fix.
Improvement
Review AP outputs for accounting accuracy, including payment runs and vendor master changes.
Document SOPs and improve the close in the ERP system they use; contribute ideas for automation.
Guide junior analysts as the team grows.
Who you are
Must have
4–7 years in general ledger or record-to-report, with at least 2 years on US GAAP for US-headquartered companies (in-house, a global capability centre, a Big 4 delivery centre or an outsourcing provider).
Qualification: B.Com or M.Com plus one of CA (including CA Inter or semi-qualified), CMA, ACCA, US CPA (completed or in progress), or an MBA in Finance. We care more about what you have done than the letters after your name.
Hands-on month-end close: you personally prepare entries, reconciliations and the closing package.
Exposure to multi-entity accounting: intercompany and FX.
Have supported an external audit, including PBC preparation.
Clear, confident English, written and spoken; comfortable on calls with US finance leaders.
Strong Excel.
Able to work regular overlap with US Eastern Time.
Good to have
SAP S/4HANA Finance (FI).
Pharma, biotech or manufacturing accounting: inventory costing, R&D and clinical accruals.
Any exposure to IPO preparation, SEC reporting or SOX.
US CPA or ACCA in progress.
Power BI or similar reporting tools.
How you work
You own your numbers and close the loop without being chased.
You ask the question behind the request.
You hold a high bar for accuracy and presentation.
You want to grow into a controllership role and are hungry to learn public-company accounting.
Location and working model
Remote within India, with a preference for candidates based in Bengaluru or Chennai.
Candidates outside Chennai travel to our Chennai office for one week every two months, at company expense.
Regular overlap with US Eastern Time for client meetings.
Growth
This role is built to grow. Strong performers move into Assistant Controller and client-lead roles as the engagement and the team expand.
What we offer
Hands-on exposure to a US company's journey to public markets, with a senior US mentor.
A visible, client-facing role, not a ticket queue.
Work alongside our GenieWorks.ai team as we bring AI into finance operations.
Competitive compensation, company-paid health insurance for self (family can be added through the company plan) and company-paid life insurance.
