We are hiring
GoodEarth is hiring architects at two levels, 0–2 and 2–4 years of experience, to design
and build at Saarang, our eco-village in Peravoor, Kannur.
About GoodEarth and Saarang
GoodEarth has been building the other way for more than 30 years. It began in the late
1980s as a band of architects, engineers, craftspeople and naturalists, inspired by Laurie
Baker, Gandhi and Masanobu Fukuoka. Its work now includes Malhar eco-village in
Bengaluru (60+ acres, 700+ families), with teams in Bengaluru, Kochi and Calicut.
Here the mason and the carpenter sit at the same table as the architect. Ideas get drawn,
tested on site, argued over, and built better.
Saarang is GoodEarth's first holistic eco-village: 27 acres in the foothills of Puralimala, in
the Western Ghats. Fifteen acres of homes and twelve acres of food forest, growing on
what used to be a rubber plantation. Birdwing Farmstay is already up, and new homes are
rising in brick, laterite and clay tile. The next ones need you.
What you'll do
You'll take buildings from first sketch to finished wall, and stay for all the messy, glorious
bits in between.
Design homes and community buildings at Saarang: site study, concepts, working
drawings, details.
Build them. Be on site most days with masons, carpenters and engineers. This is where
your detail meets reality, and reality has opinions.
Work with the land: contours, water, trees, light and the monsoon, which always gets a
vote.
Use what's local: laterite, brick, clay tile, timber.
Keep it moving: drawings, quantities, schedules and quality checks, the unglamorous
stuff that gets buildings finished.
Iterate with families and craftspeople until the idea is right, not just done.
Who we’re looking for
At both levels:
You're fluent in AutoCAD and SketchUp (or similar), and still happy to sketch by hand.
You care about climate-responsive, low-impact building and want to get better at it.
You're up for living and working in Peravoor, Kannur. Malayalam helps on site, but it's
not a dealbreaker
Why join
Your drawings become buildings. Design and execution sit in one team, so nothing
gets thrown over a wall to a contractor.
You learn from 30+ years of building the other way, and from the people who built it.
Real responsibility early, on a 27-acre site that's still being shaped.
Your office has a 12-acre food forest. Kannur's Theyyam season is right next door.
How to apply
1. Send your CV and portfolio
2. T ell us which level fits you: 0–2 or 2–4 years.
3. Add three lines on a building you love. Not the famous one from your thesis. One you've
actually stood in.
We read every portfolio. Renders are welcome, but show us something you drew by hand
too.
