Engineer Fluent in Mandarin for Trip to China to Obtain Chemical Plant Data

Role Summary
We are seeking a chemical process engineer who is fluent in Mandarin Chinese to accompany our team on a short trip to China. The primary objective is to collect operating data from a chemical plant related to chemical reactor performance. This data will be used to customize process software that will serve as an engineering tool for the client.
The successful candidate must be able to understand the process system well enough to clearly communicate with the client’s engineers, explain what data is required, and help ensure the right information is collected for the software customization effort.
Key Responsibilities
Travel to China for approximately one week to support data collection activities at a chemical plant.
Interface with the client’s engineers in Mandarin to explain data requirements related to chemical reactor performance.
Assist in identifying, gathering, and documenting relevant operating data.
Help ensure the collected data is suitable for use in customizing chemical process engineering software.
Provide technical guidance during the visit so the client understands what information is needed and why.
Support any immediate follow-up questions or clarifications during or shortly after the trip.
Requirements
Fluency in Mandarin Chinese (spoken and technical communication preferred).
Background in chemical engineering or a closely related field.
Understanding of chemical process systems, preferably including reactor performance, plant operations, or process data.
Ability to explain technical data needs clearly to client engineers.
Must be free of any employer legal constraints (able to work as an independent contractor or otherwise unrestricted).
Willingness and ability to travel to China on short notice for approximately one week.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with chemical process software, digital twins, process simulation, or data-driven engineering tools.
Prior experience working in or with chemical plants.
Familiarity with sulfuric acid, catalytic reactors, or related process technologies is a plus but not required.
Previous international technical collaboration or client-facing experience.
Additional Information
This engagement is expected to last about one week, with paid travel time and full accommodations provided. There is potential for additional work related to training the client’s team and future trips, depending on project needs and performance.
