Position Summary
The Staff Cost Accountant supports the month-end close process and cost accounting function by preparing journal entries, reconciling inventory, analyzing excess and obsolete (E&O) inventory, closing manufacturing work orders, and coordinating recurring review meetings with cross-functional stakeholders. This role requires strong attention to detail, familiarity with cost accounting principles, and the ability to collaborate with operations, finance, and supply chain teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare and book journal entries as part of the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
Prepare monthly inventory reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies between physical counts, system records, and general ledger balances.
Prepare the excess and obsolete (E&O) inventory analysis template, evaluating inventory aging and recommending reserve adjustments.
Review and close completed manufacturing work orders, ensuring costs are properly relieved and variances are analyzed and recorded.
Schedule and facilitate recurring review meetings with relevant stakeholders (e.g., operations, supply chain, finance) to discuss inventory, cost variances, and close-related items.
Support other month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities as needed.
Assist with internal and external audit requests related to cost accounting and inventory.
Identify opportunities to improve cost accounting processes and internal controls.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
1–3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or cost accounting environment.
Working knowledge of standard costing, inventory accounting, and month-end close processes.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; Oracle ERP experience required.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple deadlines.
Compensation
The salary for this role will range from 62,400.00 - 93,300.00 USD annual based on full-time employment. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to location, relevant skills, training, experience, education, etc.
Certain roles may be eligible for performance-based incentive compensation and/or long-term incentives. Incentives could be discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
