About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
At Gigaton, we’re on a mission to cut gigatonnes of carbon emissions from the world’s biggest emitting industries (like cement, steel and glass), by building autonomous AI control and optimisation systems that learn and leverage the physics of manufacturing. Our products run heavy industrial plants more efficiently, more stably, and with lower emissions in real time - laying the foundation for the next industrial revolution.
We are a team of scientists, engineers, builders, and operators who love hard problems, have high standards, and want to make change happen in the physical world. We care about deep tech, but we care even more about whether it delivers cost and carbon impact in a live plant, with real people, under real constraints.
With Gigaton, you’ll solve really tough problems in places few people ever get close to, and build something that actually helps the planet. Are you up for the challenge?
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're hiring a Product Manager, reporting to the Head of Product. You'll be based in London, hybrid with four days a week in the office, and expect a few days at a customer site most months, most of them abroad. We're a Series A company of 30+ people. We raised $26M in a round led by Plural, alongside 2150, Semapa Next and Planet A Ventures.
You'll own the roadmap for your product areas and see it through end to end: decide what to build next, write the spec, ship it with our engineering teams, and prove it made a difference in a live plant. Our customers operate heavy industrial assets like cement kilns and mills. Our product controls and optimises those plants in real time. Success is measured in cost and carbon, not clicks.
Like most industrial B2B products, the people who use ours aren't the people who buy it. Operators and process engineers live with it every shift. Plant managers and group leaders decide whether it's worth paying for and rolling out. You'll need to understand both, and build for both.
WHERE YOU'LL START
Embedded with the team serving our largest customer, a global cement group with many plants. You'll help each new site pass its evaluation, roll out faster and see the value we deliver: how we measure and report impact, what plant teams and group leaders see, and the tooling that makes every new site quicker than the last. Then you'll generalise what works there for every enterprise customer.
YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the roadmap for your areas. Estimate the benefit, effort and uncertainty of each initiative, and make the case for what we build next with the Head of Product.
- Run discovery with plant teams and the engineers who roll out each plant, and measure whether what we ship made a difference and stays switched on.
- Spend time with operators, process engineers and plant leaders to understand their work and what would change it.
- Understand what our buyers need to see to trust, renew and expand: the evidence, the reporting, and the business case. Build that into the product.
- Build AI-forward products around specific jobs: find where agents can do real work for plant teams and our own engineers, define what good looks like, build the evals to prove it, and decide when it's good enough to ship.
- Write specs and briefs that engineers and AI agents can build from, then stay with the work until it's built and delivering results.
- Work day to day with deployment, engineering and research. Earn the engineering teams' trust, cut through the noise, and give them clarity on what to build and why.
- See past the specifics of each plant rollout and turn what you learn into repeatable product features. Know when a request from our biggest customer belongs in the product, and when it doesn't.
- Join customer and commercial conversations, explain the product's value in the buyer's terms, and bring back what you learn.
WHAT A GREAT FIT LOOKS LIKE
- You've shipped beautiful and impactful products, and owned the results, ideally in a technical, operational or enterprise B2B setting.
- You know the difference between the user and the buyer. You've worked in B2B where they had different needs, and built products that served both. You can find your way around a large customer's organisation, from their central teams to each plant, working on their data and their platforms alongside their own teams.
- You get deep into unfamiliar technical areas quickly and can hold your own on the details.
- You're comfortable with numbers and evidence. You've made prioritisation calls on incomplete data, estimating value, effort and risk, and you can tell a real improvement from noise.
- You have real empathy for users with hard, specialised jobs who are nothing like you.
- You write clearly and bring structure to messy problems.
YOU'LL EXCEL IF YOU ARE
- Experienced shipping features built on LLMs, and you think in evals: test sets, failure modes and quality bars.
- Using AI tools to amplify your judgment, not replace it. You direct agents to do the execution-heavy work so you stay focused on the thinking.
- Happy to put on PPE and spend a few days at a cement plant, and do the unglamorous work needed to build something great.
- Excited by hard problems, fast learning, and getting close to customers.
💡 You are not expected to check every box, and we’d love to hear from you even if your experience isn’t an exact match.
We’re building a team that reflects the world we want to change. Our people come from different countries, cultures and experiences, and we think that’s one of our biggest strengths.
We’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels safe, respected and celebrated. No matter your background, if you’re excited by what we do, we want to hear from you.
THE INTERVIEW PROCESS
1. Call with our Talent Partner to help you learn more about the role and team and to assess initial mutual fit.
2. Exploratory 25 minute call with our Head of Product, Kenny.
3. On-site product interview: take a real plant problem and scope a feature for it, including the engineering requirements, how you'd show its value to the plant manager, and how you'd know an AI-generated part of it is good enough to ship, then rank it against three other initiatives and explain your bet.
4. On-site or remote Operating Principles interview, a structured behavioural interview linked to our operating principles.
5. Finally, a meeting with our CEO, Josh.
Hiring is a two-way process. Just as we'll reference-check candidates before making a final offer, we encourage you to reference-check us by chatting to team members you haven't yet met. Ask anything. We'll answer with Concrete Honesty. Once interviews are done, we'll move quickly to a decision, and we're always happy to give feedback at any stage.
In return for your hard work, we’ll give you
📈 Equity in the company: When we win, you win. You’ll get share options, so you’re part of our journey from the inside.
🕰️ Flexible working We trust you to know how and when you work best and to work that out with your team.
🌴 30 days of holiday (plus bank holidays). Rest is productive. Take the time you need to recharge
🪙 A generous pension scheme. We’re planning for the future in more ways than one.
