About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

BNY is seeking a Director to join our Corporate Strategy team in New York. The team works across the enterprise on the highest-priority questions shaping BNY's growth, competitive position and long-term value creation.
This role offers the opportunity to advise senior leaders, lead a portfolio of high-impact strategic engagements, and help shape the future of financial services as artificial intelligence, data, tokenization, and new market infrastructures transform capital markets.
In this role, you will shape BNY’s future:
Shape enterprise strategy. Help develop, challenge and articulate BNY's global strategy across businesses and geographies, linking market shifts and client needs to a focused set of enterprise priorities.
Independently lead multiple complex strategic engagements. Structure ambiguous questions, frame hypotheses, direct multiple workstreams, conduct rigorous quantitative and qualitative analysis, facilitate senior working sessions and synthesize recommendations into executable plans.
Serve as a trusted advisor. Partner with business and functional executives to sharpen priorities, surface trade-offs and turn complex analysis into concise, decision-ready recommendations for senior management; build credibility quickly and influence outcomes across a complex, matrixed organization.
Translate innovation into value. Assess how AI, data, automation, digital assets and emerging technologies can create growth, improve client outcomes, expand capacity or reduce risk; and define pathways from concept to adoption and measurable value.
Build fact-based external perspectives. Maintain a current and forward-looking view of competitors, technology firms, fintechs, infrastructure providers, regulators and client behavior; translate external developments into differentiated implications for BNY.
Use AI responsibly in the strategy craft. Apply AI-enabled research, analytics and productivity tools to improve the speed and depth of strategic work while maintaining high standards for data protection, validation, transparency and human judgment.
Develop exceptional talent. Lead, coach and mentor team members; strengthen apprenticeship and feedback; and help Corporate Strategy serve as a talent incubator and feeder of future leaders across BNY.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
Strategy leadership experience. 8-10+ years of relevant experience in corporate strategy at a top financial institution, top management consulting firm, or leading fintech; significant experience independently leading complex engagements and overseeing multiple workstreams is required.
Financial services fluency. Strong understanding of financial institutions, market infrastructure and the economic, client and regulatory forces shaping the industry; experience in banking, asset servicing, markets, payments, wealth or investment management is preferred.
AI and technology judgment. Working knowledge of generative and agentic AI, data and analytics, automation and enterprise technology, with the ability to connect technical possibilities and constraints to business value, operating-model implications and responsible adoption. Engineering expertise is not required.
Innovation perspective. Experience evaluating or developing new products, platforms, ecosystems, business models or strategic partnerships.
Structured problem solving and commercial acumen. An entrepreneurial, self-directed mindset and the ability to take an ambiguous challenge from fact base and hypotheses to clear choices, recommendations and execution plans, supported by sound market, client, financial and risk analysis.
Executive influence and execution. Significant experience advising senior executives, influencing decisions without formal authority and leading cross-functional stakeholders through thoughtful trade-offs to high-quality outcomes in a complex, matrixed organization.
Communication excellence. Exceptional written, verbal and visual communication skills, with the judgment to distill complex topics into crisp narratives, decision points and practical actions for a wide range of audiences.
Bachelor's degree in business, economics, finance, engineering, data or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience, required; MBA or other relevant advanced degree preferred. Advanced PowerPoint and Excel skills, with comfort using market-intelligence and AI-enabled tools, are expected.
