Your Opportunity
About BDO GrantMatch
BDO GrantMatch is a leading government funding consultancy with more than 20 years of experience helping organizations across Canada and the United States identify, secure, and manage government funding.
Our team works with organizations across virtually every industry – from advanced manufacturing, food processing and clean technology to aerospace, municipalities and other public-sector organizations – supporting projects involving capital investment, innovation, workforce development, sustainability,
infrastructure and economic growth.
Our experience and extensive funding knowledge also power GrantMatch™, our proprietary technology platform used to identify and evaluate government funding opportunities across North America.
As our team continues to grow, we are seeking three Funding Analysts to join BDO GrantMatch remotely from anywhere in Canada. One position will require professional fluency in both English and French.
The Opportunity
If you are an exceptional researcher and writer who enjoys learning about new industries, solving problems and turning complex information into a compelling business case, this role may be an excellent fit. The Funding Analyst is a critical member of our client delivery team and is responsible for
researching and developing the written content required for government funding applications.
Approximately 70% of the role is focused on research and professional business writing. You will regularly move between industries, clients, and subject areas. On one project, you may be researching automated food-processing equipment; on another, clean technology, aerospace manufacturing, municipal infrastructure or an innovative production process.
You will work closely with our Funding Specialists, who lead client relationships, project scoping, information gathering, and overall funding strategy. Together, the Funding Specialist and Funding Analyst transform a client's project concept into a comprehensive, accurate, and compelling funding application.
What You'll Do
Research & Grant Application Development
Research clients, industries, technologies, equipment, production processes, markets and other technical or business topics required to develop strong funding applications.
Become a project-level subject matter expert, developing enough knowledge of unfamiliar industries and technologies to communicate complex concepts clearly and credibly.
Draft comprehensive government funding applications, business cases, proposals and supporting documentation on behalf of clients.
Translate technical, financial, and operational information into clear, persuasive narratives aligned with government funding priorities.
Review program guidelines, application forms, and supporting documentation to develop a thorough understanding of eligibility requirements, evaluation criteria, program objectives and submission requirements.
Identify key program language and ensure applications clearly demonstrate alignment between the client's proposed project and the funder's objectives.
Develop application templates, checklists, and other working documents to ensure all required information and supporting documentation are addressed.
Adhere to our in-house Style Guide and standards for written content. Conduct detailed selfreviews of your work for accuracy, completeness, consistency, grammar, and overall quality before applications move through the broader review process.
Incorporate feedback from Funding Specialists, internal reviewers, and clients while maintaining consistency across the complete application package.
Project Strategy & Collaboration
Partner closely with Funding Specialists to understand each client's business, proposed project, and overall funding strategy.
Participate in relevant client meetings to gain first-hand knowledge of projects, ask questions and capture the information required for application development.
Build on the Funding Specialist's initial project strategy to develop a comprehensive and compelling application narrative.
Identify information gaps throughout the writing process and develop thoughtful, customized questions that enable Funding Specialists to efficiently gather the required information from clients.
Maintain proactive communication with Funding Specialists regarding application progress, outstanding information, upcoming deadlines, and potential risks.
Collaborate with colleagues across the BDO GrantMatch team to share program knowledge, research, and best practices.
Government Funding Research
Research new and existing government funding programs across Canada and the United States.
Interpret complex program guidelines and translate them into practical eligibility requirements, funding considerations, and application strategies.
Identify programs that may align with existing client projects and communicate potential opportunities to the broader team.
Stay informed about government priorities, economic developments, emerging industries and business trends that may influence funding opportunities.
Contribute research and program intelligence to BDO GrantMatch's internal funding knowledge base and proprietary technology platform.
Project Management & Quality
Manage multiple applications and research assignments simultaneously, often with competing priorities and firm external deadlines.
Develop and maintain realistic workback schedules in collaboration with Funding Specialists.
Take ownership of assigned deliverables and ensure work is completed accurately and on time, with sufficient time for internal and client review.
Maintain organized electronic project files and documentation using Microsoft 365 and SharePoint.
Track application progress and communicate status, information requirements, and potential challenges proactively.
Support application submission and post-approval/compliance activities where required.
Participate in team initiatives, knowledge sharing, and special projects that improve the quality and efficiency of BDO GrantMatch's services.
What We're Looking For
Above all, we are looking for an exceptional writer and researcher with strong business judgment. The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Exceptional professional writing skills. You can take large volumes of complex or technical information and turn them into clear, concise and persuasive written content.
Strong research skills and intellectual curiosity. You enjoy learning how businesses, technologies, and industries work and are comfortable becoming knowledgeable about unfamiliar subjects quickly.
Analytical thinking. You can interpret detailed program criteria, identify what matters most, and connect a client's project to broader government objectives.
Strong business sense. You understand how to identify the most compelling elements of a business or project and communicate its economic, operational, and strategic value.
Exceptional attention to detail. You recognize that application quality can depend on everything from a strong project narrative to an overlooked eligibility requirement or inconsistent figure.
Ownership and accountability. You take responsibility for the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of your work and proactively identify information gaps, risks, and next steps.
Excellent organization and time management. You can manage multiple assignments and deadlines without losing sight of details.
Strong collaboration skills. You are comfortable working closely with Funding Specialists, clients, and other team members in a highly integrated virtual environment.
Initiative and self-motivation. You are comfortable working independently, asking thoughtful questions, and seeking out the information you need to move work forward.
Adaptability. You enjoy variety and can comfortably move between different clients, industries, funding programs, and project types.
A commitment to continuous learning and quality. You actively seek feedback and look for opportunities to strengthen both your own work and our team's approach.
Education & Experience
A university or college degree in English, Communications, Business, Economics, Public Policy, Political Science, or a related discipline is preferred.
Candidates from other educational backgrounds will also be considered where professional experience demonstrates exceptional research, writing, and analytical capabilities.
