State Implementation Director

About the Opportunity
The hiring organization is seeking a State Implementation Director for a full-time, remote-first role based in the United States. This role serves as the dedicated lead and trusted partner for state education agency clients, turning state priorities into successful programs and aligning internal cross-functional teams to ensure district readiness and program delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Own statewide program delivery from planning and launch through adoption and renewal, translating state priorities into actionable plans, milestones, and success metrics.
Serve as the primary relationship lead for state education leaders, establishing partnerships through responsiveness, transparency, and consistent delivery.
Coordinate product, technology, data, training, operations, and support teams to achieve coordinated execution and robust governance.
Design scalable district onboarding approaches that meet individual district needs while ensuring readiness across integrations, rostering, data exchange, and security.
Collaborate with state agencies to define reporting and success measures, while leading training and change-management strategies to drive ongoing adoption.
Identify and manage risks and dependencies proactively, implementing solutions to enhance program quality, scalability, and partner satisfaction.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business, education, program management, technology, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
8+ years of progressive experience leading complex programs, implementations, client engagements, or cross-functional initiatives.
Proven track record of directing large-scale, multi-stakeholder programs with fixed deadlines and significant operational complexity.
Professional experience working with State Departments of Education, school districts, EdTech, SaaS, education services, or government contracting.
Hands-on experience with technology-enabled implementations, data integrations, training, adoption, and reporting.
Demonstrated executive-level relationship building and stakeholder management skills.
Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive outcomes through influence without direct authority.
Strong decision-making, judgment, problem-solving, and risk-management capabilities.
Strong communication skills suited for both executive and operational audiences.
Ability to travel as needed to support state and district engagements.
Willingness to take on evolving responsibilities based on organizational needs.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience specifically within education or government environments.
Compensation and Benefits
Base salary: $130,000—$150,000 USD. Individual compensation decisions are based on multiple factors, including relevant experience and skill sets.
