Principal Product Designer, Mobile

Otto is building a personal AI assistant that runs on a dedicated device and connects to the apps people use every day. Our mobile and desktop apps let people talk to Otto, connect their accounts, and control the actions their assistant takes.
We’re looking for a Principal Product Designer to own the mobile experience—from setting up a device for the first time to making Otto part of someone’s daily routine.
This is a hands-on individual contributor role with broad product influence. You’ll partner closely with engineering and company leadership to turn complex capabilities into intuitive, polished experiences.
What you’ll do
- Lead end-to-end mobile product design, from research and early concepts through prototypes, implementation, and iteration.
- Design clear experiences for device setup, AI conversations, connected apps, permissions, and approvals.
- Establish interaction patterns that work across mobile and desktop while respecting platform conventions.
- Build and evolve our design system, including components, typography, motion, and accessibility.
- Test ideas with users and turn findings into practical product decisions.
- Work closely with engineers to ensure the shipped experience meets the design intent.
- Set a high standard for design craft and help the team make thoughtful product tradeoffs.
What you’ll bring
- A portfolio of shipped consumer mobile products showing strong product thinking, interaction design, and visual craft.
- Experience leading complex design work at a principal, staff, lead, or equivalent level.
- Deep understanding of iOS and Android conventions and accessible mobile design.
- Strong skills in prototyping, information architecture, and designing complete user journeys.
- The ability to simplify unfamiliar workflows and make progress through ambiguity.
- Clear communication and a collaborative approach to working with engineers.
- A willingness to own both the overall experience and the details that make it feel finished.
Helpful experience
- AI assistants, conversational interfaces, or products that take actions on a user’s behalf.
- Connected devices, device onboarding, or software that spans hardware and mobile.
- Designing for React Native applications.
- Building consumer products in an early-stage team.
