Role Description
The Structural Designer is responsible for developing structural design concepts, preparing detailed engineering drawings, and producing technical documentation for building, infrastructure, and construction projects. The role focuses on creating safe, functional, and efficient structural solutions that align with project specifications, engineering principles, and applicable design standards.
Key responsibilities include preparing structural layouts, plans, elevations, sections, and detailed drawings for foundations, beams, columns, slabs, steel frames, and other structural components. The Structural Designer interprets architectural drawings, engineering specifications, and project requirements to develop accurate design documentation that supports construction planning and implementation.
The position involves coordinating with structural engineers, architects, civil engineers, and other project stakeholders to ensure consistency across design documents. Responsibilities include reviewing drawings, checking dimensions and material specifications, identifying design discrepancies, resolving coordination issues, and incorporating revisions in accordance with project requirements.
The Structural Designer utilizes computer-aided design (CAD), building information modeling (BIM), and other relevant engineering software to prepare two-dimensional drawings and three-dimensional structural models. The role also supports design calculations, material assessments, quantity evaluations, and technical reviews to help ensure structural integrity, constructability, and efficient resource utilization.
Additional duties include maintaining drawing registers, organizing technical records, updating design revisions, preparing documentation for project submissions, and assisting with quality assurance checks. The Structural Designer contributes to design optimization by identifying opportunities to improve structural efficiency, simplify construction processes, and reduce unnecessary material usage while maintaining safety and compliance.
Effective collaboration, technical accuracy, and attention to detail are essential for coordinating structural requirements with architectural and building services designs. The role requires a systematic approach to problem-solving and a commitment to delivering clear, consistent, and technically reliable engineering documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
