Description:
The main function of Pharmacy Services is to provide efficient and accurate responses to external customers (physicians, office staff, pharmacy providers, members, and brokers) and internal team members.
Resolves outpatient pharmacy benefit coverage issues (inclusions/exclusions), prescription claim problems, drug formulary inquiries, prior authorization criteria, and group/member eligibility issues.
Researches and resolves administrative review, consumer affairs issues, physician inquiries, and member grievances.
Under general supervision, coordinates, assists with and supports the implementation of procedures and guidelines for the outpatient pharmacy benefit prior authorization program.
Communicates with physicians, physician office staff, medical management, pharmacists, patients, and other team members to ensure accurate and efficient resolution of prior authorization requests.
Provides formulary alternatives and communicates prior authorization criteria, pharmacy benefit coverage, and formulary guidelines to relevant internal and external stakeholders.
Maintains courteous and professional communication with physicians, office staff, contracted pharmacists, patients, and other team members throughout the prior authorization process.
Conducts drug usage history reviews and pharmacy benefit-related computer searches to support pharmacists and the Medical Director with case-specific reviews and drug evaluations.
Assists pharmacists with drug utilization review programs, NCQA Quality Improvement (QI) programs and other assigned projects.
Provides essential clinical information to Member Services, the Administrative Review Department and Consumer Affairs to support the resolution of member inquiries and grievances.
Qualifications:
Required Certifications: Pharmacy Technician certification (California State licensure or PTCB).
Must have prior Pharmacy Tech experience.
Software Skills Required: Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Attention to detail, problem solving, strong communication skills.
