## About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and technically curious **Junior Cybersecurity API Security Analyst** to help protect application programming interfaces (APIs) that connect applications, services, and business systems.
In this role, you will support API security assessments, review authentication and authorization controls, document vulnerabilities, and help development teams improve the security of their applications. You will gain exposure to modern application security practices while working with cybersecurity and software engineering professionals.
## Key Responsibilities
* Assist with reviewing API security configurations and identifying potential weaknesses.
* Help assess authentication and authorization mechanisms, including token-based access.
* Support authorized security testing of APIs in development and testing environments.
* Review API documentation and identify potential risks involving exposed endpoints or sensitive data.
* Assist with identifying common API security issues, including broken access controls and excessive data exposure.
* Help document security findings, evidence, and recommended remediation steps.
* Review API traffic and application logs to support security investigations.
* Collaborate with developers to verify that security issues have been addressed.
* Assist with evaluating rate limiting, input validation, and error-handling controls.
* Support security reviews of REST APIs and, where applicable, GraphQL interfaces.
* Maintain accurate assessment records and contribute to security reports.
* Follow approved testing procedures and ensure all assessments are properly authorized.
## Requirements
* Diploma or bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
* Basic understanding of HTTP, HTTPS, REST APIs, JSON, and web application architecture.
* Familiarity with authentication, authorization, and access control concepts.
* Awareness of common web application vulnerabilities.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Attention to detail and clear technical documentation skills.
* Ability to collaborate with development and security teams.
* Commitment to ethical testing and responsible handling of sensitive information.
## Preferred Skills
* Familiarity with the OWASP API Security Top 10.
* Basic experience with tools such as Postman or Burp Suite in authorized environments.
* Understanding of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, or JSON Web Tokens (JWT).
* Introductory knowledge of Python, JavaScript, or another programming language.
* Familiarity with API gateways, access tokens, and rate-limiting controls.
* Basic knowledge of cloud-hosted applications and secure software development.
* Relevant certifications, practical labs, internships, or application security projects are an advantage.
