Position: PDF Annotation & Transcription Experts – Japanese
Type: Contract
Compensation: $31/hour
Location: Remote
Role Responsibilities
Evaluate pages provided for annotation, ensuring they are in Japanese, legible, and contain real content without personal details.
Annotate structure by identifying and bounding regions such as document titles, sections, tables, and figures, assigning each a component type and reading-order index.
Record relationships by linking regions to their parent components, such as figures or tables.
Transcribe text exactly as it appears, including kanji, hiragana, katakana, and handwritten content, flagging illegible regions.
Capture page metadata, including language, document type, source, page dimensions, and flags for tables, formulas, and handwriting.
Review a colleague's work as a second Japanese expert, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Qualifications
Must-Have
Native fluency in Japanese, including full command of kanji, hiragana, and katakana.
Professional experience in interpretation, journalism, transcription, translation, or editorial work.
Exact character-level accuracy.
Systematic application of taxonomy across pages.
Comfort with unfamiliar layouts, such as vertical text and multi-column formats.
Preferred
Experience with AI training data annotation, labeling, or bilingual evaluation.
Skills in transcription and localization, including MTPE and OCR correction.
Expertise in document production, typesetting, and proofreading.
Knowledge of script and encoding, including Unicode normalization and Japanese input methods.
