The mandate
Our client is a large, listed Indian building materials company with a multi-decade brand, a national dealer and retail footprint, and manufacturing in Gujarat. The Company is entering a growth phase. It has a strong product portfolio across tiles and natural stone and a new franchise retail format, and the task now is to turn that base into sustained, profitable revenue growth. The CEO will run the business day to day, own the operating P&L, and lead the build-out of the retail and franchise network from pilot to national scale. Success means a Company that grows through its own stores, its dealer channel and its projects business, with margins that hold as volume rises.
What you will own
Growth and P&L
Deliver sustained revenue and EBITDA growth against a plan agreed with the Managing Director and the Board.
Own the consolidated operating P&L across the retail, dealer, projects and institutional channels.
Shift the channel and product mix towards higher-margin categories and premium collections.
Retail and franchise expansion
Scale the franchise retail format from its current pilot into a national network.
Build the franchise operating model: FOFO structure, franchisee selection and onboarding, store P&L standards and royalty economics.
Strengthen the dealer network and the projects channel (architects, PMCs, builders) alongside owned retail, so the channels do not cannibalise each other.
Organisation
Build and lead a senior team across sales, retail, supply chain, manufacturing and finance, with clear accountability and a regular operating cadence.
What you bring
Must have
20+ years of experience, including at least 5 in a CEO, business head or P&L-owning role, in a business with revenue of ₹500 crore or more.
Has personally owned a P&L through a period of measurable revenue and margin growth.
Has scaled a multi-location retail or franchise network, with a store count and timeline you can name.
Background in building materials, consumer durables, home and décor, or a comparable dealer-led Indian category.
Has run a business where manufacturing and distribution sit under one P&L.
Strongly preferred
Experience in a listed company, including board reporting, investor communication and governance.
Exposure to tiles, sanitaryware, natural stone, paints or allied categories.
A record of turning around or re-accelerating a mature brand.
What we look for beyond the CV
A hands-on operator who spends time in stores, at dealer counters and on project sites, and does not run the business only from reviews.
Delegates execution while staying personally accountable for the numbers.
Comfortable working closely with an engaged Managing Director who has a strong view on brand and product.
Moves quickly from analysis to decision, and can show a time they reversed a decision when the data changed.
Reporting and structure
The CEO reports to the Managing Director. Direct reports are the heads of sales, retail and franchise, supply chain, manufacturing, finance and HR. Key interfaces are brand and design, legal, and investor relations.
Compensation
Commensurate with experience.
