About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal Software Developer based in the United States.
Take a leading role in shaping the reliability, performance, and scalability of a cloud-based data platform that powers critical customer reporting.
You will own data pipelines end to end, from ingestion and transformation to secure API delivery, ensuring customers can depend on accurate and accessible information.
Working across data and application engineering, you will navigate a complex multi-repository architecture and drive improvements throughout the platform.
Your expertise will help strengthen observability, prevent production failures, and resolve performance bottlenecks affecting enterprise customers.
You will establish high standards for code quality, testing, code reviews, and production readiness while guiding engineering best practices across the team.
This is a high-autonomy opportunity for an experienced engineer who combines technical depth with strong ownership and a commitment to continuous improvement.
The role follows a hybrid work arrangement, combining work from home with onsite collaboration as required.
Accountabilities
As a Principal Software Developer, you will lead technical improvements across data infrastructure and application services, with a focus on reliability, performance, and customer trust.
Build, maintain, and operate data pipelines using Databricks and Azure Data Factory, transforming raw data into reliable, report-ready datasets through the medallion architecture pattern.
Improve reliability and observability across the complete data pipeline, implementing health checks, monitoring, data-quality controls, and failure-handling mechanisms.
Identify and prioritize customer-facing performance issues, including long-running requests that cause timeouts for large enterprise customers.
Develop a strong understanding of the multi-repository architecture and contribute effectively across both application and data engineering workstreams.
Establish and uphold engineering standards for code reviews, testing strategies, maintainability, and production readiness.
Design, develop, and maintain ASP.NET Core OData reporting services that securely expose platform data to customers.
Support identity and security improvements, including authentication and token-related integrations.
Investigate complex production issues, identify root causes, and implement sustainable solutions that improve platform stability.
Collaborate with engineers across the organization to resolve cross-repository dependencies and ensure consistent technical practices.
Provide technical leadership through thoughtful design decisions, constructive code reviews, and a strong focus on measurable improvements to customer experience.
Requirements
The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineer with a strong background in cloud data platforms, distributed systems, and enterprise application development. You should be comfortable owning complex services, improving production reliability, and setting high technical standards across engineering teams.
Typically 10 or more years of professional software engineering experience, including senior-level ownership of services, data platforms, enterprise applications, or cloud-hosted systems.
Hands-on experience with Databricks and Azure Data Factory, including building ingestion and transformation pipelines based on the medallion architecture pattern.
Proven ability to improve the reliability and observability of distributed systems through health checks, monitoring, data-quality gates, and graceful failure handling.
Experience understanding and managing dependencies across multiple repositories in a Git-based development environment.
Strong C# and ASP.NET Core development skills, including OData service design, middleware, and dependency injection.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and identity and authentication flows, including Microsoft Entra ID, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), and single sign-on (SSO).
Strong SQL skills, including experience troubleshooting and optimizing queries in production environments.
A high standard for code quality, testing, code reviews, and production readiness, with the ability to influence and guide engineering peers.
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Accounting Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex technical issues and deliver reliable solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration technologies for deploying and managing data pipelines.
Familiarity with GraphQL or API design approaches beyond OData.
Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools for code reviews, debugging, or root-cause analysis.
Benefits
Opportunities to shape the reliability and performance of a cloud-based data platform used for customer reporting.
High level of technical ownership across data engineering and application development.
The opportunity to establish engineering standards and influence production-readiness practices across the codebase.
Collaboration with engineering teams on complex enterprise software and cloud technology challenges.
