About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

As a System and Hardware Safety Architect, you will join a multidisciplinary team of experienced System, Hardware, and Software Functional Safety Architects responsible for developing innovative safety solutions for the next generation of automotive, industrial, and robotics systems.
The mission of the Safety team is to develop system-level reference safety concepts, evaluate emerging technologies, and drive functional safety innovation that enables future architectures and applications. In this role, you will act as a technical leader and subject matter expert for selected safety technologies, contributing to NXP's strategic safety roadmap and influencing future product and system architectures.
Your initial focus will be on 48V Energy Distribution architectures for Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV), including zonal and central compute architectures. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to advanced safety solutions for X-by-Wire systems, as well as electrification applications such as On-Board Chargers (OBC), DC/DC converters, Inverters, and Battery Management Systems (BMS).
Working closely with system architects, IC architects, hardware and software development teams, and customers, you will:
Define System, Technical, and Hardware Safety Concepts for automotive and industrial reference designs compliant with ISO 26262 and IEC 61508.
Run safety analyses ( FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, DFA), and other system-level safety assessments.
Analyze NXP IC safety documentation and safety manuals to derive integration requirements, Hardware-Software Interfaces (HSI), and device configuration recommendations.
Develop safety manuals, application notes, and customer-facing safety collateral to facilitate product adoption.
Support hardware and software integration teams in implementing safety mechanisms and achieving safety objectives.
Contribute to demonstrations and proof-of-concepts showcasing NXP functional safety technologies and innovations.
Engage directly with customers to support the integration of NXP solutions and the development of system-level functional safety concepts.
Drive technical leadership across projects, mentor engineers, and promote best practices in functional safety architecture and safety-driven system design.
This position offers a unique opportunity to influence future safety architectures, develop innovative safety technologies, and establish yourself as a recognized technical expert within NXP and the broader functional safety ecosystem.
Key Challenges:
Deep expertise in functional safety standards (ISO 26262 ASIL D, IEC 61508), with proven ability to define and drive System, Hardware, and Software safety architectures for complex automotive and industrial systems.
Strong experience in safety analysis for the development of fail silent and fail-operational concepts for safety-critical applications such as X-by-Wire system.
Proven track record of leading safety-compliant system, and HW design developments, leveraging strong knowledge of power electronics, 48V energy distribution, automotive embedded systems, and semiconductor technologies to deliver innovative safety solutions.
Cross functional aspects:
Collaborate with System Architects, IC Architects, Hardware, Software, Verification, and Product teams to define and deploy end-to-end functional safety solutions across NXP reference designs and semiconductor products.
Act as a trusted technical advisor for customers, ecosystem partners, and internal stakeholders, supporting the integration of NXP safety-enabled technologies and promoting best practices in safety architecture and system design.
Drive alignment across engineering, marketing, application, and innovation teams to translate emerging market needs into scalable safety concepts, technology roadmaps, demonstrations, and customer-facing collateral.
Job Qualifications:
Master's degree in Electronics Engineering or Computer Engineering with 10 or more years of experience preferred.
Strong experience in Functional safety development ISO26262 (part 3,4,5)
Prior experience working at Automotive Tier 1 or 2 supplier in development of HW electronic safety system
Experience in analog part of power distribution such as PMIC, efuse, DC/DC, gate drivers used in automotive ECUs.
