Principal Designer (CDM) / CDM Advisor

PB Safety Consultancy Ltd is looking for an experienced Principal Designer / CDM Advisor to join our specialist consultancy team.
This is a client-facing role for someone with strong practical knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and the confidence to take responsibility for Principal Designer duties across a varied portfolio of UK construction projects.
You’ll work directly with clients, designers and wider project teams, helping to plan, manage and monitor the pre-construction phase and ensuring health and safety risks are properly considered throughout the design process.
The role will include:
• Acting as Principal Designer under CDM 2015 on behalf of PB Safety clients
• Advising clients on their duties, appointments, competence, resources and pre-construction information
• Working with designers to identify, eliminate, reduce and control foreseeable health and safety risks
• Coordinating health and safety information across multidisciplinary project teams
• Reviewing design information and project documentation for CDM compliance
• Liaising with Principal Contractors where design work continues into the construction phase
• Preparing and maintaining Health and Safety Files
• Producing clear professional reports and maintaining auditable project records
• Providing practical, proportionate and commercially aware advice to clients and project teams
We’re looking for someone with:
• Previous experience in a CDM, Principal Designer or construction Health & Safety consultancy role
• Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015
• Experience working on large and complex projects
• A NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate
• Membership of IOSH or the Association for Project Safety (APS)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• The confidence to challenge constructively and advise clients professionally
• A full UK driving licence
A NEBOSH Diploma, higher-level IOSH membership and further APS qualifications would be advantageous.

The role will involve travel to client and project sites across the UK, with occasional overnight stays where required.
