About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

Remote or Denver: We are assisting a publicly traded, growth-oriented energy company with an integrated platform spanning natural gas production, power generation and carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS). The company is expanding its power generation business and is seeking a Senior Counsel – Power Generation to provide strategic legal support across the development, construction, operation and maintenance of power generation assets.
This is an opportunity for an experienced energy attorney to join a dynamic organization and work closely with commercial, finance and operations teams on sophisticated projects and transactions.
The Role
The Senior Counsel will provide broad legal support across the power generation business, with responsibilities including:
Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements supporting power generation projects, including PPAs, EPC, O&M, supply, interconnection and other project agreements.
Advising on legal and regulatory matters involving FERC, ERCOT, PJM, PUCs and state energy regulations.
Monitoring changes to market rules, tariffs and regulatory requirements and advising business teams on their impact.
Supporting power projects throughout their lifecycle, from development and construction through financing, operations and maintenance.
Advising on project development matters, including site acquisition, zoning and permitting.
Partnering closely with commercial, financial and operational stakeholders to identify and manage legal and business risks.
The Ideal Candidate
The company is seeking an energy attorney with approximately 7–10 years of experience, ideally combining law firm and in-house experience within the energy or utility sector. Candidates should have meaningful experience with power generation, wholesale electricity markets and project-related commercial contracts, with direct exposure to ERCOT and/or PJM particularly valuable.
Experience with renewable generation, battery storage or hybrid generation projects is a plus.
The successful candidate will bring strong commercial judgment, excellent drafting and negotiation skills, and the ability to translate complex legal and regulatory issues into practical business advice. The role is well suited for an attorney who enjoys working independently, collaborating directly with business teams and taking ownership of sophisticated projects in a fast-moving environment.

Competitive salary, commensurate with experience (Base Pay: $160,000 - $300,000)
