Sustainability Director

Role Description The Sustainability Director at UN-Habitat Regional Office for Arab States (ROAS) is a part-time, remote role responsible for leading sustainability initiatives across urban programs and projects in the region. The role involves designing and implementing corporate sustainability strategies aligned with UN-Habitat’s mandate and SDG 11, integrating environmental and social considerations into regional operations and partnerships. The Sustainability Director will oversee sustainability reporting frameworks, track performance indicators, and ensure transparent communication of sustainability outcomes. Day-to-day tasks include providing technical guidance on carbon and environmental impact assessments, advising on corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices, coordinating with internal teams and external partners, and contributing to policy development, capacity-building activities, and knowledge products related to sustainable urbanization in the Arab States.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess strong expertise in Corporate Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility.
Candidates should possess skills in Sustainability Reporting and related performance measurement and disclosure practices.
Candidates should possess knowledge of Carbon management, including assessment, reduction strategies, and climate impact analysis.
Candidates should possess a solid foundation in Environmental Science and its application to urban development and planning.
Advanced university degree in sustainability, environmental science, urban planning, public policy, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
Demonstrated experience in leading sustainability initiatives within international organizations, public sector, or large institutions.
Strong analytical, research, and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and in multicultural, remote teams.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
Familiarity with the 2030 Agenda, SDG 11, and urban sustainability frameworks relevant to the Arab States region is highly desirable.
