We focus on Novel Chemical Entities (NCEs), repurposing approved drugs, and rescuing clinical candidates across Oncology, Inflammation, Infectious Diseases, Women’s Health and Rare Diseases. Operating primarily virtually with wet-lab partnerships, we are looking for a sharp, scientifically grounded professional to protect the cutting-edge assets generated by our AI engines and scientists.
The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Patent & Grant Writer to bridge the gap between our computational algorithms, medicinal chemistry strategy, Pharmacology strategy, global IP protection, and research funding. Stationed at our innovation hub in C-CAMP, Bangalore, you will play a pivotal role in capturing the novel hits generated by our AI platform and translating our scientific vision into compelling patent applications and funding proposals.
Working directly alongside our founding scientists, data science team, and external counsel, you will translate complex AI-driven chemical discoveries into robust patent applications and highly competitive grant submissions. Please note: You do not need to be a registered patent attorney or patent agent for this role. Our priority is your deep scientific understanding, exceptional writing skills, and ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Intellectual Property:
Patent Drafting: Draft high-quality provisional, non-provisional, and PCT patent specifications covering novel chemical entities, pharmaceutical compositions, and methods of use.
IP Harvesting: Conduct regular IP harvesting sessions with the AI/ML, Pharmacology and medicinal chemistry teams. Extract key predictive data, identify patentable AI-designed scaffolds, broaden SAR coverage and define broad yet defensible Markush structures.
Prior Art & FTO Analysis: Perform comprehensive literature and patent database searches to assess patentability, freedom-to-operate (FTO), and competitor landscapes.
Data Translation: Synthesize complex pharmacological, chemical, and computational data into clear, technically sound documents to support external counsel in global prosecution.
Grant Writing & Scientific Strategy:
Grant Identification: Actively scout and identify relevant non-dilutive funding opportunities from national and international agencies (e.g., BIRAC, DBT, DST, NIH, Horizon Europe) and private biotech/pharma foundations.
Proposal Development: Lead the end-to-end drafting, editing, and submission of highly competitive scientific grant proposals, ensuring strict alignment with agency guidelines and Peptris’s strategic goals.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with the executive, R&D, and finance teams to gather necessary technical data, project timelines, and budget requirements for proposals.
Technical Reporting: Assist in drafting scientific progress reports, white papers, and regulatory technical documents for awarded grants and key stakeholders.
Qualifications
Educational Background: Ph.D. or Master’s degree (M.Pharm/M.S./M.Sc.) in Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, or a closely related field.
Writing Experience: 2–5 years of proven experience in scientific writing, encompassing patent specification drafting and/or successful grant proposal writing within a pharma/biotech company, tech transfer office, or research institution.
Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of the Patent Writing with respect to drug discovery lifecycle, chemical structures, Markush claim drafting, and structure-activity relationships (SAR) and/or biological mechanisms descriptive writing.
Bonus Skills: Familiarity with computational chemistry, AI/ML in drug discovery, or software-assisted methodologies is a massive plus.
Search Capabilities: Proficiency in using patent and scientific databases (e.g., SciFinder, Reaxys, PatBase, Derwent, PubMed).
