Full Stack Engineer Intern – Insurance Intelligence Platform
Company: Benefits for Expats Inc.
Location: Remote
Duration: 3–6 months
Engagement: Unpaid Internship
Compensation: This internship is unpaid and does not provide salary, wages, or a stipend.
About Benefits for Expats Inc.
Benefits for Expats Inc. is a boutique consulting and technology firm helping financial institutions expand, innovate, and scale globally.
We work at the intersection of financial services, insurance, technology, and AI, supporting clients with growth strategy, partnerships, acquisitions, digital transformation, and AI-enabled solutions. Our focus is on simplifying complex markets and building fit-for-purpose, digital-first ecosystems that enable organizations to operate and grow with confidence.
We are currently developing a proprietary AI-powered Insurance Intelligence Platform designed to transform complex insurance information into structured, accessible, and actionable intelligence.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a hands-on Full Stack Engineer Intern to help design, build, and deploy our Insurance Intelligence Platform.
Please note that this is an unpaid internship for a period of 3–6 months. Candidates should apply with the understanding that no salary, wages, or stipend will be provided for the internship term.
This is an opportunity to work on a product from an early stage and contribute across the full technology stack—from user-facing applications and APIs to data integrations, AI-enabled workflows, cloud infrastructure, and system architecture.
You will work closely with the CEO and product stakeholders, translating business and insurance use cases into production-ready technology.
This role is best suited to someone who enjoys building products, solving ambiguous technical problems, and taking ownership beyond narrowly defined engineering tasks.
Compensation and Internship Terms
This position is offered as an unpaid internship. Benefits for Expats Inc. will not provide salary, hourly wages, or a stipend during the internship period.
Candidates are encouraged to consider whether an unpaid internship is suitable for their personal circumstances before applying. Where applicable, the internship may support academic, portfolio, or practical professional experience objectives, subject to any requirements of the candidate’s educational institution.
All internship arrangements will be structured in accordance with applicable requirements.
What You’ll Work On
You will contribute to the development of an intelligent platform that brings together insurance data, analytics, and AI capabilities into a scalable digital experience.
Your responsibilities will include:
Design, develop, test, and deploy end-to-end web applications across the front end and back end.
Build intuitive, responsive, and high-performing user interfaces for the Insurance Intelligence Platform.
Develop secure and scalable APIs, backend services, and application logic.
Design and work with databases and data models supporting insurance, financial, and intelligence datasets.
Integrate internal and third-party data sources, APIs, and external services.
Support the implementation of AI-powered features, including workflows involving large language models, structured data extraction, search, analytics, or intelligent automation.
Translate business requirements and insurance use cases into clear technical solutions.
Build reusable components and services that can scale as the platform grows.
Implement authentication, authorization, data security, and other application security best practices.
Write clean, maintainable, well-documented, and testable code.
Develop automated tests and contribute to reliable CI/CD and deployment processes.
Identify and resolve performance, reliability, and scalability issues across the application stack.
Participate in technical architecture and technology-stack decisions.
Conduct code reviews and contribute to engineering standards and development best practices.
Collaborate directly with leadership, consultants, and other stakeholders in a fast-moving remote environment.
What We’re Looking ForCore Technical Skills
Strong foundation in full-stack software development, with experience building end-to-end web applications.
Proficiency with modern front-end technologies such as JavaScript/TypeScript and frameworks such as React, Next.js, Vue, Angular, or equivalent.
Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, responsive design, and component-based UI development.
Experience with backend development using technologies such as Python, Node.js, Java, .NET, or similar frameworks.
Experience designing and consuming REST APIs and/or GraphQL APIs.
Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or equivalent.
Understanding of application architecture, data structures, authentication, authorization, and web security fundamentals.
Experience using Git and modern version-control workflows.
Familiarity with automated testing, debugging, and software engineering best practices.
Preferred Experience
Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
Familiarity with Docker, containerized applications, CI/CD pipelines, and modern deployment practices.
Experience integrating AI/ML services, large language models, vector databases, RAG pipelines, or AI APIs is highly desirable.
Familiarity with data ingestion, document processing, search, analytics, or data-intensive applications.
Experience building SaaS, fintech, insurtech, financial-services, consulting, or enterprise technology products.
Understanding of privacy, security, and responsible handling of sensitive financial or insurance-related information.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline; current students and recent graduates with strong practical experience are also encouraged to apply.
Demonstrated ability to build working applications through professional experience, internships, academic projects, open-source contributions, or a strong technical portfolio.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to independently investigate and resolve technical challenges.
Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Comfortable working independently in a remote, entrepreneurial, and highly collaborative environment.
Interest in insurance, financial services, AI, data, or enterprise technology is strongly preferred.
Why Should You Apply
This internship is a strong fit for someone who wants hands-on experience building a real AI-powered product from the ground up, rather than working on isolated development tasks.
You will have the opportunity to:
Work directly with the CEO and senior stakeholders on product and technology decisions.
Help shape and build a proprietary Insurance Intelligence Platform at an early stage.
Gain practical experience across the full technology stack, including front end, backend, APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, and AI integrations.
Work on real-world use cases at the intersection of insurance, financial services, data, and artificial intelligence.
Build tangible portfolio experience by contributing to a product intended for real commercial use.
Develop experience translating complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
Gain exposure to product strategy, architecture, and startup-style decision-making—not just coding.
Take meaningful ownership of features and see your work directly influence the evolution of the platform.
This role is especially suited to someone who is entrepreneurial, curious, self-driven, and eager to build. If you want practical experience that gives you both technical depth and exposure to how an AI-enabled product is conceived, built, and brought to market, this internship offers that opportunity.
Important Application Note
By applying, candidates acknowledge that this is a 3–6 month unpaid internship and that no salary, wages, or stipend will be provided.
