The role
This is an exciting opportunity to join our HR Consulting team as a Senior HR & Compensation Consultant, where you'll lead the delivery of compensation projects for clients across Canada, with compensation as your primary area of expertise.
From market benchmarking and job evaluation to salary structure design, pay equity and pay transparency, you'll help clients navigate complex compensation challenges and make confident, commercially practical decisions. You'll take clients from an unclear concern to a clear, defensible recommendation, translating complex data and pay concepts into accessible guidance that supports effective implementation.
Working closely with clients and colleagues across the wider HR consulting team, you'll combine strong analytical skills, consulting expertise and a continuous improvement mindset to deliver accurate, well-documented and legislatively compliant compensation solutions.
This role will:
Lead end-to-end compensation projects, including market benchmarking and pricing, job descriptions, job evaluation and classification, salary structure and range design, and compensation policy development.
Deliver pay equity and pay transparency support, applying relevant legislative requirements across the client's jurisdiction and helping employers understand their obligations.
Scope client needs and recommend solutions, asking the right questions to uncover underlying challenges, defining project requirements and agreeing clear timelines, deliverables and fees.
Manage projects and client expectations, maintaining delivery against agreed scopes, timelines and quotes while managing changes appropriately.
Analyse compensation data and financial implications, developing implementation plans and cost impact analyses that help clients understand the budgetary and workforce implications of recommendations.
Present findings and recommendations to client leadership in clear, accessible language, explaining the methodology, defending conclusions and guiding clients through interpretation and implementation.
Contribute to the development of compensation tools and methodologies, improving templates, processes and approaches to support consistent, efficient and scalable service delivery.
Collaborate with account management, sales and marketing teams, supporting quotes, proposals, RFP responses, client presentations, webinars and educational content relating to compensation.
Use AI and automation effectively to improve data preparation, job matching, analysis, reporting and drafting, applying professional judgement and appropriate expert review to maintain accuracy and quality.
Ad hoc responsibilities
Supporting broader HR consulting engagements by bringing compensation expertise to wider client projects.
Contributing to larger or multi-jurisdictional client engagements.
Presenting compensation recommendations to client boards, councils or committees.
Supporting variable pay and incentive plan design.
Contributing to service development, new compensation offerings and the ongoing improvement of consulting tools and methodologies.
Supporting business development through compensation-related proposals, RFPs, webinars, presentations and client discussions.
About you
You're a confident, client-focused consultant who combines analytical rigour with commercial awareness and the ability to communicate complex compensation concepts in straightforward, practical terms. You're comfortable taking ownership of projects, challenging assumptions when the data doesn't support a conclusion, and helping clients understand not just what the numbers say, but what they mean for their organisation.
You'll bring:
Proven ability to lead compensation projects independently, from scoping through to recommendations and implementation.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to validate data, defend methodologies and develop evidence-based recommendations.
Excellent client consulting, communication and presentation skills, translating complex compensation concepts into practical business advice.
Commercial awareness and the ability to explain the budgetary and workforce implications of compensation decisions.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities, manage expectations and maintain quality.
Collaborative and improvement-focused, with an interest in developing scalable tools and using AI and automation responsibly.
Education, Certifications & Experience
A degree or diploma in business, economics, finance, HR or a related field is helpful; demonstrated capability is prioritised.
The Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation, or progress towards it, is a strong asset.
Proven experience leading compensation projects, including market benchmarking, job evaluation and salary structure design.
Working knowledge of Canadian pay equity, pay transparency and employment standards legislation across multiple jurisdictions.
Experience with salary survey tools, market data and AI or automation in analysis and reporting.
Experience presenting to senior leadership, boards or councils; RFP experience is an asset.
