Role Description
The Design Architect is responsible for developing architectural concepts, preparing design proposals, and coordinating the planning and visual development of building projects to ensure that designs meet functional, aesthetic, technical, and regulatory requirements. This role combines conceptual design, spatial planning, architectural documentation, material selection, design coordination, and project communication to deliver practical and visually compelling architectural solutions.
Design responsibilities include developing architectural concepts, preparing preliminary layouts, creating design presentations, and translating project requirements into functional and attractive spaces. The architect evaluates spatial relationships, building proportions, circulation patterns, natural lighting, ventilation, and material combinations to develop cohesive design solutions. Duties also include preparing sketches, floor plans, elevations, sections, three-dimensional models, and visual renderings to communicate design concepts clearly. The role considers usability, accessibility, sustainability, and design consistency throughout the architectural development process.
Technical documentation responsibilities involve preparing and reviewing architectural drawings, design specifications, schedules, and related project documents. The architect ensures that drawings are coordinated, dimensions are consistent, and design information is presented accurately for review and implementation. Additional duties include incorporating design revisions, maintaining drawing records, reviewing material specifications, and coordinating architectural details with structural, mechanical, electrical, and other technical disciplines. The role helps identify design conflicts and supports the resolution of technical issues before they affect project progress.
Project coordination responsibilities include communicating with clients, consultants, contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and maintain alignment throughout the design process. The architect participates in design meetings, presents proposals, gathers feedback, and incorporates approved changes into project documentation. Duties may also include reviewing design submissions, coordinating material samples, supporting site inspections, and assessing whether construction activities reflect approved design intent. The role contributes to effective communication between design and technical teams while helping maintain project quality and consistency.
The position also supports research into architectural trends, building materials, sustainable design strategies, and emerging technologies. The architect evaluates alternative design approaches, considers cost and construction practicality, and recommends solutions that balance creativity with project requirements. Through thoughtful design development, accurate documentation, and effective multidisciplinary coordination, the role contributes to architectural quality, functional spaces, and successful project delivery.
