About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
We are looking for a QA Automation Engineer from anywhere in the world.
MadAppGang is a custom development company headquartered in Sydney, Australia.
It was founded by an experienced software engineer, Jack Rudenko, in 2011 in Ukraine. We have outsourcing, outstaffing and our own projects.
MadAppGang’s engineering culture is focused on development and work, not bullshit and bureaucracy. Our company was created by engineers for engineers, so you can work with maximum efficiency and pleasure in a team of cool professionals. Our culture is based on Rework and Remote by 37Signals.
Our team
The development team is distributed and works remotely from different parts of the world. It consists of 40 amazing people: a founder/CTO, CEO, backend, frontend and mobile developers, an Art Director, a UX/UI designer, DevOps engineers, QA engineers and Project Managers.
The team is mostly Russian-speaking, but we are moving towards diversity.
Our projects
We develop digital products for the web, mobile and cloud. We have years of experience and many projects with clients of different calibre from all around the globe. This lets us build digital solutions with the right balance between complexity, delivery time and cost. Over the past decade, we’ve built dozens of solutions for the fintech, energy, healthcare, fitness, transportation and food industries.
All our projects are international: Europe, Asia and Australia.
About the project
We are looking for a QA Automation Engineer for our client, the Australian company Janus Electric. Janus Electric converts heavy-haul trucks from diesel to electric. The core idea is swappable batteries. A truck doesn’t spend hours charging. It pulls into a station, swaps its depleted battery for a charged one and keeps going.
We are building a cloud platform on AWS that connects trucks, batteries and charging stations into one system. The platform:
— collects real-time telemetry,
— tracks which battery is in which truck and what condition it is in,
— gives engineers and fleet operators the data they need for monitoring and diagnostics.
The development team is small, and you will be the only QA engineer on the project. Your job will be to build product testing from scratch, from choosing the E2E framework to gating releases to production.
Tech stack: Go (backend), React with MUI (frontend), AWS, Infrastructure as Code, IoT device application, GitHub Actions. The team uses AI tools (Claude) in its development and verification workflow.
What you will do
Choose and set up an E2E automation framework for the React frontend and the device application. There is no framework in place yet, so the choice is yours.
Automate testing across all layers where it pays off, without slowing down the delivery pipeline. E2E tests that cover the core platform features are the first priority.
Write tests in the same language as the component under test: JS/TS for React, Go for the backend and API.
Run design QA for each frontend view as it’s built, checking it against Figma designs and acceptance criteria.
Integrate automated tests into GitHub Actions pipelines.
Review pull requests to understand what each change does and how to verify it.
Do manual and exploratory testing where automation isn’t in place yet.
Capture verification evidence on tickets after dev deployment (UI screenshots, AWS, CLI output).
Later, help set up a release process (schedule, release notes) and act as the gate that approves releases to production.
It is important for us
Strong test automation experience, with a focus on E2E.
Experience testing React frontends.
UI/design QA experience: checking builds against designs and acceptance criteria.
Ability to read and understand pull requests and code.
Experience integrating tests into CI/CD (GitHub Actions).
Good judgement on what to automate and what to keep manual.
Comfort using AI tools in your QA workflow.
Confident spoken and written English (B2 and above).
Willingness to attend stand-up meetings at 8:00–9:00 a.m. (GMT+3).
Nice to have
Experience with AWS and cloud services.
Go. You don’t need to know it already, but you will work with it.
MUI.
Infrastructure as Code.
IoT or device application testing.
Release management or release gating experience.
