Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE)
Employment Type: Graduate / Entry-Level Opportunity
Location: Remote initially, with potential for customer-site deployments
Domain: Agentic AI, Software Engineering, Enterprise Automation
About Agento
Agento is building a governance-first AI operating system that enables enterprises to move beyond chatbots and deploy intelligent agents capable of executing real business workflows.
Our platform connects AI models, enterprise knowledge, business applications, APIs, and human approval processes to automate complex operational tasks.
We are building the infrastructure that helps organisations put AI to work securely, reliably, and at scale.
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Forward Deployed Engineer who enjoys solving difficult problems at the intersection of software engineering, AI, and real-world business operations.
As an FDE at Agento, you will work across the product and customer environments, helping translate business requirements into working AI-powered solutions. You will integrate enterprise systems, configure agentic workflows, troubleshoot technical challenges, and help ensure deployments work reliably in practice.
This is not a traditional support role. We want engineers who can investigate a problem, write code, connect systems, test solutions, and take ownership of the outcome.
The Agento Gauntlet is a practical technical challenge through which candidates can demonstrate their engineering ability, problem-solving approach, and readiness to work on real deployment challenges.
What You'll Do
Deploy and configure AI agents and automated business workflows.
Integrate enterprise applications using REST APIs, webhooks, and connectors.
Work with LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), semantic search, and enterprise knowledge sources.
Connect AI workflows to systems such as SharePoint and other business applications.
Develop scripts, integration logic, and lightweight services to solve deployment challenges.
Troubleshoot authentication, data access, API failures, and workflow execution issues.
Test AI solutions for reliability, accuracy, security, and operational readiness.
Investigate unfamiliar technical environments and develop practical solutions.
Work with the product and engineering teams to turn field learnings into reusable platform capabilities.
Document implementations, technical decisions, and lessons learned.
What We're Looking For
Essential skills
Programming experience or a strong foundation in Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or a similar language.
Understanding of REST APIs, HTTP, JSON, and authentication.
Familiarity with Git and software development fundamentals.
Strong analytical thinking and systematic troubleshooting skills.
Ability to learn unfamiliar technologies and work independently.
Clear communication and the ability to explain technical decisions.
Good to have
Experience with LLMs, AI agents, prompt engineering, or AI-assisted development.
Exposure to RAG, embeddings, vector databases, or knowledge graphs.
Familiarity with Azure, cloud deployments, Docker, or Linux.
Experience integrating SaaS platforms or enterprise applications.
Understanding of OAuth, role-based access control, and secure system integration.
Personal projects, GitHub repositories, prototypes, or deployed applications.
You do not need to have experience with every technology listed. We value practical ability, curiosity, ownership, and the capacity to learn quickly.
The Agento Gauntlet
Candidates may be invited to participate in the Agento Gauntlet as part of the recruitment process.
The challenge is designed to evaluate how you approach real engineering problems, rather than simply test theoretical knowledge.
You may be assessed on your ability to:
Build or adapt a working AI-powered solution.
Integrate multiple systems and troubleshoot API issues.
Diagnose failures and investigate unfamiliar technical problems.
Design and test an end-to-end workflow.
Identify security, reliability, and operational risks.
Explain your solution, trade-offs, and implementation decisions.
Challenge instructions, evaluation criteria, submission requirements, and deadlines will be provided to participants.
What You'll Gain
Hands-on experience building and deploying enterprise AI solutions.
Exposure to agent orchestration, enterprise integrations, and workflow automation.
The opportunity to work across software engineering and real-world business problems.
Direct collaboration with the team developing Agento.
The opportunity to turn deployment challenges into improvements to a growing AI platform.
Who Should Apply?
This opportunity is suitable for:
Recent graduates in Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI, or related disciplines.
Junior software engineers interested in applied AI.
Developers who have built personal projects and want to work on real-world deployments.
Self-taught engineers who can demonstrate strong practical skills.
A relevant degree is desirable but not essential if you can demonstrate equivalent technical ability.
How to Apply
Submit your résumé and, if available, your GitHub profile, portfolio, or examples of projects you have built or deployed.
Shortlisted candidates may be invited to complete the Agento Gauntlet as part of the selection process.
We are looking for builders who can turn AI capabilities into working solutions. If you enjoy solving hard problems, integrating systems, and making AI work in the real world, we want to hear from you.
