Technical Lead

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Web Development Team Lead to manage our web development department and oversee website projects from client onboarding to final delivery. The ideal candidate brings hands-on expertise in WordPress, Shopify, PHP, full-stack development, eCommerce, hosting and web applications, alongside strong leadership, project delivery and Australian client communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
1. Team Management
• Lead, mentor and support developers and designers; assign work based on skills, workload and priorities. • Monitor productivity, project progress and individual performance; resolve technical challenges and support skill development.
2. Project Management and Delivery
• Manage multiple website projects from onboarding through launch, including requirements, timelines, resources and deliverables.
• Track project status, planned versus actual launch dates, delays and team capacity; address risks and keep deadlines on track.
• Ensure all websites are tested, responsive, functional and ready for launch.
3. Client Communication
• Communicate directly with Australian clients to gather requirements, provide updates, manage feedback and revisions.
• Resolve queries and concerns, escalate major issues, and coordinate complete handovers with access and documentation.
4. Technical Expertise
• Lead WordPress, Shopify, PHP, full-stack, eCommerce and custom web application projects.
• Oversee hosting, domains, migrations, deployments, backups and technical troubleshooting.
• Review website performance, speed, security, responsiveness and functionality; guide complex issue resolution.
5. Quality Assurance and Process Improvement
• Ensure pre-launch QA covers functionality, mobile responsiveness, forms, integrations and performance.
• Introduce checklists and workflows that reduce rework, errors and delays; maintain documentation and delivery records.
• Use AI-assisted tools and automation where appropriate to improve development speed, quality and team productivity.
6. Cross-Team Coordination and Internal Communication
• Partner with Account Managers, designers, SEO, Google Ads, Meta Ads and Content teams to clarify scope and priorities.
• Coordinate SEO requirements, tracking codes, conversion tracking, landing pages and content updates before launch where applicable.
• Document and communicate requirements, dependencies, feedback, blockers, timeline changes and launch readiness.
• Proactively follow up, resolve cross-team issues, escalate major blockers and ensure smooth project handovers. Required Skills and Experience
• 7+ years of hands-on web development experience, including at least 2 years in a team lead or similar leadership role.
• Strong WordPress and Shopify development skills; working knowledge of PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, databases, APIs and full-stack development.
• Experience with eCommerce sites, custom web applications, hosting, deployments, website testing, security and performance optimisation.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and development teams, including planning, decision-making, documentation and quality control.
• Excellent written and spoken English; confident in Australian client communication, requirement gathering and stakeholder management.
• Strong collaboration with Account Managers and digital marketing teams; ability to translate technical and marketing needs into clear tasks. • Ability to apply AI development tools and automation to improve efficiency and quality.
