About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
Build your expertise in US tax resolution. Own cases. Lead people. Deliver outcomes.
Are you an experienced US tax professional who knows how to navigate IRS collections, negotiate resolution options, and help taxpayers get back on track?
Do you want to move beyond routine tax preparation and take ownership of complex cases, work directly with US tax firms, and build a specialist practice?
TaxSQR is looking for a hands-on Tax Manager to lead our US tax resolution and IRS collections practice.
This is an opportunity for someone who combines strong technical knowledge with sound judgment, excellent client communication, and the ability to lead a team. You will have meaningful ownership of cases, responsibility for quality and delivery, and the opportunity to help shape a growing specialist practice.
About TaxSQR / MobilitySQR
TaxSQR and MobilitySQR provide US and Indian tax services through a team of IRS Enrolled Agents and qualified tax professionals. We support US tax practices with IRS collection and resolution matters, individual tax return preparation, and cross-border tax compliance.
We are ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certified and place a high priority on data security, professional standards, and reliable delivery to our partner firms.
What you will own
1. US tax resolution and IRS collections — your primary responsibility
You will manage cases from initial assessment through submission, IRS follow-up, and resolution.
IRS transcript analysis: Review account, wage and income, and return transcripts to identify outstanding balances, assessments, penalties, compliance gaps, collection timelines, and Collection Statute Expiration Dates (CSEDs).
Offers in Compromise (OICs): Assess eligibility, calculate reasonable collection potential, evaluate appropriate grounds—including doubt as to collectibility and effective tax administration—and prepare Form 656 submissions with supporting financial documentation.
Installment Agreements: Evaluate and prepare guaranteed, streamlined, non-streamlined, and partial-payment installment agreement requests.
Currently Not Collectible (CNC): Evaluate financial hardship and prepare requests supported by appropriate financial analysis and documentation.
Penalty abatement: Prepare First-Time Abatement requests and reasonable-cause submissions, supported by the relevant facts and documentation.
Financial analysis: Prepare and review Forms 433-A, 433-B, and 433-F, applying the relevant IRS Collection Financial Standards and evaluating the taxpayer's financial position.
IRS notices and collection deadlines: Monitor collection notices, liens, levies, and applicable Collection Due Process and Equivalent Hearing deadlines, escalating time-sensitive matters promptly.
Compliance before resolution: Identify and coordinate the preparation of outstanding tax returns and other compliance items required for the proposed resolution.
Representation support: Prepare Forms 2848 and 8821 and coordinate with appropriately authorized representatives handling IRS communications.
You will be expected to exercise independent judgment, identify the most appropriate resolution strategy, explain the rationale, and maintain a clear record of each case's status and next steps.
2. US and cross-border individual tax returns
While tax resolution is the primary focus, you will also oversee selected individual tax engagements for our partner firms.
Review US Forms 1040 and 1040-NR, including relevant international reporting requirements such as FBARs, Form 8938, and applicable treaty positions.
Review Indian income tax returns, including relevant NRI and cross-border matters.
Identify technical issues, documentation gaps, and potential reporting risks before returns are finalized.
3. Team leadership and practice management
Review the work of tax associates, provide technical guidance, and develop their case-handling capabilities.
Establish clear priorities, manage workloads, and deliver work within agreed turnaround times and service standards.
Prepare written engagement quotations, define scope and deliverables, and begin work only after written acceptance from the client firm.
Serve as a key technical contact for US partner firms, communicating case progress, recommendations, risks, and information requirements clearly.
Maintain appropriate documentation, review controls, and secure handling of client information in accordance with applicable confidentiality requirements, IRC § 7216, Circular 230, and our ISO 27001-aligned controls.
What makes you a strong fit?
Essential experience
At least 5 years of US tax experience, including 3 or more years of hands-on IRS collections and tax resolution work.
Demonstrable experience preparing and managing Offers in Compromise, Installment Agreements, CNC requests, and penalty abatement cases.
Strong working knowledge of IRS transcripts, Collection Financial Standards, collection procedures, and relevant sections of the Internal Revenue Manual.
Experience evaluating taxpayer financial information and translating it into a defensible resolution strategy.
Experience reviewing US individual income tax returns and identifying technical or compliance issues.
Excellent written English, particularly for IRS submissions, reasonable-cause letters, case summaries, and professional client correspondence.
The ability to manage cases independently, meet deadlines, and communicate confidently with US-based tax professionals.
Credentials and tools
An active IRS Enrolled Agent (EA) credential is strongly preferred.
US CPA credentials or demonstrable progress toward the EA examinations will also be considered.
Familiarity with tax resolution platforms such as IRS Solutions or Canopy, alongside professional tax preparation software, is an advantage.
Experience with Indian NRI taxation and cross-border individual tax matters is desirable.
We value demonstrated capability over credentials alone. Candidates should be able to explain their approach to real-world resolution scenarios and demonstrate the depth of their hands-on experience.
What we offer
Meaningful case ownership: Take responsibility for resolution strategy, technical quality, and case progression.
Specialist work: Develop deeper expertise in US tax resolution rather than focusing exclusively on high-volume tax preparation.
Direct professional exposure: Work with US tax firms and contribute to client engagements that require technical judgment and clear communication.
Leadership opportunity: Coach tax associates, strengthen review processes, and help develop a growing specialist practice.
Career development: Support for relevant professional certifications, including the EA and CPA pathways.
Growth potential: An opportunity to expand your technical and managerial responsibilities as the practice grows.
Competitive compensation: Salary based on experience, technical capability, and the level of responsibility you can take on.
